The Sardinia region
In Sardinia is possible to enjoy a holiday in lots and different ways. The geological nature of the territory, its climate and geographic position make Sardinia a special and unique place. Everyone arriving in Sardinia for the first time has the feeling of entering another world consisting of endless spaces and majestic landscapes. Surrounded by the sea, Sardinia, in fact, features a unique, unmatched territory. The island, due to its insular position and historical events, is one of the Mediterranean areas where popular traditions are less contaminated by the outside world. Just think of the fascinating domus de janas, the origin of nuraghes or tombe dei giganti (the giants’ tombs), the mysterious menhir dating back to the Bronze Age, in addition to a heritage characterized by ethnomusical traditions, poetry and literature in the Sardinian language.
Alghero area
An ancient land, situated on the north-west coast of Sardinia, Alghero is a town with plenty of feelings. Roman, Genoese and Catalan ... it unites its millenary history with charming natural landscapes giving shape to new styles of tourism, binding culture nature and sport. The town in front of the sea Alghero is set in one of the most famous Sardinia’s jewel: The “Riviera del Corallo” where enchanted worlds live under and above sealevel.
According to the historians the town was founded in 1102, when the Doria, an influencial family from Genoa, fortified a fishing village already present. Alghero remained Genovese until 1354, except the pisans attacks in 1283. Then Dorians originally constructed the “Bastioni” which were strenghtened by Catalans-Aragoneses in 1354, date of the origin of Catalan domination. Since the second half of the 16th century, the fencing wall has assumed the huge sight that the Bastioni, in front of the sea, have still today.
