About the home

The local shops, bars and restaurants are all outside the front door. The apartment is within walking distance of the port, the ancient bastions of the city and the local beaches.
"The apartment is excellently located in the heart of atmospheric Alghero. It was the perfect base for us (two adults and a 10 month old baby) to explore the town. The apartment has all the facilities you need - 10/10".

The Sardinia region
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It was first inhabited by man in 6,000 B.C and is known for its rich archaeoligical history. The first settlers were from the Italian mainland and the Iberian peninsula. The Island has a history of invasion with one of the first being the Phoenicians and defended itself against constant coastal raids from the Carthagians, Byzantines and Berbers. In 1354 the Aragons seized Alghero and transformed it into a Catalan city. Visitors will still see elements of the Iberian origins (the Aragons were in power for more than 400 years in Alghero) in the local dialect which is similar to Catalan and can be seen in the dual named street signs. Since the 18th century the Italian royal family used to spend their summer holiday in Alghero.
Sardinia is known as an island of the extremes. Rugged coast lines, turquoise and emerald coloured seas, large areas of pastures and dense mountain ranges in the centre of the Island.
The coastlines around Alghero are stunning with views of Capo Caccia from all angles. A short drive will take one to either Bosa further south or Stintino a bit further north, each of which are rich in local culture and history.
The temperatures in the summer on the coast can average 28 degrees celcius, but can get up to the mid 30's in August. It is possible to swim from May to November as the summer months can extend for about 6/7 months. The spring time is more mild and allow the visitors to appreciate the lush green countryside prior to the arrival of the dry heat of the summer.
The Alghero / Alghero Town Centre area
Walking historic cobbled stone streets, under the arches and along the walled bastions that protected this city from invasion will captivate your imagination. Alghero is a vibrant, modern city that has a local population year round of approximately 30,000 people. Various cultural events and exhibits take place throughout the year. You can find ancient churches and fortresses as you wander throughout the city. Visitors can also gain an understanding of the local culture by visiting the "Mercato" or Market in the centre of town which is overflowing with local fruits and vegetables, fish that has arrived fresh from the sea that morning, local meats and cheeses from the countryside, and the famous breads (a must have is the pane guttiau...trust us!) and dolce.
Local beaches and restaurants are all within walking distance. Bicycles are also available. For those looking to explore the sites in the vicinity, we recommend renting a car to take you to the cliffs of Capo Caccia, the Grotte di Nettuno or to the beaches of Bombarde or Stintino.
