Enquire nowThe Sardinia region
The Italian island of Sardinia, one of the oldest places on Earth, has always attracted visitors from far and wide thanks to the fascination it exerts. Its strategic location, in the dead centre of the Mediterranean, has seen it trade with numerous different peoples over the millennia, from the Phoenicians to the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Spanish, the Pisans, the Venetians, the Piedmontese and the people of the Campania region.
Moreover, Sardinia today is a fusion of the various cultures that have settled on the island, and is blessed with a truly unique environment that offers up a startling array of colours, aromas and flavours, which not only embody a sense of freshness and warmth but also make visitors feel as if they are in a place that is at once brand-new and very old indeed.
The famously warm welcome extended by the people of Sardinia derives from the fact that this is a land that has existed since time immemorial, that has been welcoming visitors since the dawn of time, stunning them with its sea of green, its mountains, flowers, fruit and fauna - all of which allow the locals to offer great food, wonderful wine and rock-solid traditions of culture and friendship.
There are several ways to get to Sardinia, with seaports at Porto Torres, Olbia and Golfo Aranci
and airports at Alghero, Olbia and Cagliari.
The Alghero / Lido area
Alghero is the perfect synthesis of all that the island of Sardinia has to offer. The city is easy to reach thanks to its international airport, which is served by Ryanair and other low-cost and charter airlines. Alghero is blessed with an ancient landscape that has been moulded by the wind and plays host to such natural wonders as the Capo Caccia promontory (a stunning viewpoint) and the Olla and Timidone mountains, as well as karstic caves like the Grotte di Nettuno ("Neptune's Caves") and the Grotta Verde ("Green Cave").
The area is scattered with traces of long-vanished peoples and cultures, as evinced by the Anghelu Ruju Necropolis, the Nuragic village at Palmavera and the Roman Villa at Sant'Imbenia. Alghero's most celebrated natural beauty spots include the Porto Conte Nature Reserve and the Capo Caccia/Isola Piana Marine Protected Area.
To this day, Alghero continues to surprise visitors with its profoundly Catalan identity, which is immediately obvious in the local dialect, street names, architecture, culture and cuisine. It is also evident in the close ties that the city has with Tarragona, Palma de Mallorca, Balaguer and Andorra.

We stayed for 10 days looking for a chilled out beach holiday and wished we'd stayed for 2 weeks! The apartment was perfectly located, we walked to Maria Pia beach everyday which was slightly nicer than the Lido and strolled into and out of Alghero in the evening(this did take about 20 mins but is a lovely walk). The apartment was very spacious and we had a fabulous welcome from Giovanni. Andrea even helped us booking our taxis from and to the airport. |

We stayed for a week and would highly recommend it. The flat was very clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. There was even a small well kept garden overflowing with flowers, which was regularly maintained by the owners. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival and departure and the owners were keen to help in any way they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The location was perfect, very close to the beach, and was quiet but at the same time walking distance to the centre of Alghero and very close to shops and restaurants. |
