The Costa del Sol region
Andalucia but specifically the Malaga province and Costa Del Sol is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, thanks to its sandy beaches, beautiful countryside, spectacular mountain ranges, fabulous monuments and high-spirited people who live life to the full and are well known for their exuberance, warmth and hospitality.
Andalucia is also home of flamenco and bullfighting, which can be best enjoyed at the region´s countless ferias and romerias.
Andalucia has 500 miles of coastline and of which 70% are sandy beaches. The Mediterranean seaboard is graced by the Costa de Almeria, Costa Tropical and the glamorous, cosmopolitan Costa del Sol, while the Costa de la Luz lies along the Atlantic shore.
As well as Andalucia´s fascinating cities and dazzling shores, the region is sprinkled with tiny unspoiled villages and whitewashed towns - the famous pueblos blancos - which tourists often overlook, even though they are of easy access, such as Algarrobo pueblo, which is just 3.5 kms from Algarrobo Costa.
Andalucia, then, is a region of startling contrasts and great charm. Yet, this mysterious corner of Europe is easy to reach, with hundreds of charter flights arriving each week at Malaga´s Pablo Picasso International Airport.
The costal resort of Algarrobo-Costa is 37 kilometres to the east of the city of Málaga, a journey of around 30 minutes. Adjoining is Algarrobo Pueblo, a town of Arab architecture, which is situated 3.5 kilometers from the coast of Algarrobo. It is bordered on the north by the municipality of Arenas and Sayalonga and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea. To the east there are a number of other quieter coastal villages including Mezquitilla and Lagos, which are both charming seaside fishing villages.
Algarrobo-Costa is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday away from the hustle and bustle, yet still be close enough to the action to enjoy it when the fancy takes you. With the attractions of Málaga just 30 minutes away, it's a wonderful spot for a getaway with pleasant beaches and lots of attractions and facilities for all holidaymakers.
Places to see? in Algarrobo include the starting point for the Route of Sun and Wine, which takes visitors through local vineyards, down to the natural coastal area of Torrox Costa and to the interesting monuments of the Castle Bago and Torre del Morche and Torre de Calaceite.
There are a number of cafés, restaurants and tapas bars in Algarrobo-Costa, which are well worth trying out. Ir de Tapeo (go for Tapas) is always a relaxed, inexpensive way to dine out and on the beach you will find Chiringuitos (beach restaurants) who specialise in the tastiest, freshest seafood.
The highly attractive 18 hole Baviera Golf Course is also situated in Algarrobo-Costa. The variety of holes and the unsurpassable views both to the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains contribute to make you enjoy and share an unforgettable day.
Algarrobo enjoys the sub-tropical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and warm winters. Algarrobo's close proximity to the sea affords cooling breezes, which make the summer heat manageable; temperatures average 32 ºC in summer.
