15-11-2012 GUESTBOOK /REVIEWS
Below an overview of the reviews from the guestbook. The tips and suggestions for restaurants, a day out, etc. can be read in the guestbook in the villa. To all writers: thanks for your positive contribution!
Nannie and Ton, 5-26 July 2012 (translated from Dutch)
It seems we've had the scoop: the first guests in Cortijo Vitorica – at least with Jos and Victoria.
The reception at the agreed spot and time (unfortunately after a delay on the airport and the car rent), but the communication with Jos is excellent). After the steep climb, the first view of the villa… beautiful. And what a gorgeous welcome package in the fridge and on the table, well done- we've never been welcomed like this before!
Short but clarifying explanation, shows that Jos doesn't want to force himself but wants us to enjoy the villa. Which we can without problems: what a location and what a comfortable house! From the nearest beach towns we like Algarrobo Costa most. And after one of the many trips in the neighborhood back to the serenity of villa Cortijo Vitorica…..heavenly!!!
We will, once back in Holland, going to miss this: Jos and Victoria thanks!
Kim, Marlon, Marley, Maurice, Stacey, Michelle and Bradley, 27 July – 3 August 2012 (translated from Dutch)
We, 2 families with 3 small children (5 months, 2,5 years and 10 years old) have spend one week in Cortijo Vitoria in Algarrobo. The villa is in the mountains, so the views are incredibly beautiful. Also nice are the breezes because of being in the mountains. At arrival there were drinks and food in the fridge, so we were able to eat directly at arrival. It's an ideal place for the kids: there is a trampoline, swings and also toys. For the baby everything was available, from a dressing cushion until cutlery! I really didn't need to take anything with me. The water in the pool had a nice temperature (29 degrees). We've used the barbecue every day. The LIDL supermarket is at 5 – 10 minutes distance (by car), where we did our shopping. We've also been in Algarrobo Costa, where is a market on Saturday, so we (the women) could do some shopping. We've also been at the beach. The water was great, although at the beach where we were it wasn't really clean, many plastic bottles, etc. We've had a really great holiday. What was also very nice is that the villa was very clean at arrival. Hygiene is very important for us.
Jan, Petra, Emma, Merle and Silke, 3-19 August 2012 (translated from Dutch)
Unfortunately it's finished: for two weeks we could enjoy the views and the beautiful house. Because of the warmth it was convenient to have a pool and air-conditioning. The house itself was provided with all conveniences. The only thing which failed was a cool box (Jos en Victoria: it's available now; thanks for the tip!) we look back with pleasure on the two weeks. Jos and Victoria, thanks for your hospitality and the fact that you were there when we needed you!
Laura, Yolanda, Phil, Richard and Beau Jackson 19 Augustus – 2 September 2012
We have had a lovely holiday in your home. Your hospitality was amazing and we would definitely come back again. We feel that you should advertise your house more to stress how good it is for young children as we came with a baby of 1 ½ years and it was perfect and safe. This area of Spain is beautiful and the location of the villa is so beautiful as no matter where you are the views are astonishing. We have had the most beautiful sunsets and feel as if we have had a most relaxing time. Thank you for a lovely vacation.
Paul, Holanda, Thijs 15 September – 2 October 2012 (translated from Dutch)
We've had a wonderful holiday, relaxed enormously and the splendid house was provided with all conveniences. The pool was delicious, especially for our son Thijs from 3 years who have had a perfect time: swimming, watching Toy Story (on video!) and in the evening having dinner at the boulevard. Good restaurants were in the beginning hard to find (J&V: see guest book in the villa for restaurant tips from the renters) but the playgrounds made it very child friendly. Jos, thanks for taking care of us, really great! Good luck with your adventure!
Patrick, Bianca en Lana 3-17 October 2012 (translated from Dutch)
We also have enjoyed the villa which is provided with all conveniences. Our 4 year old daughter will be talking about it for weeks, especially about the pool. She really had the time of her life, so did we! The views are FANTASTIC! Thanks Jos and Victoria for your hospitality, the reception with the filled fridge was really a surprise. Gave us a feeling the holiday would have to be a success! Thanks that we could stay in your villa and were able to enjoy the spectacular views. Lana would like to thank your two boys: she had a great time with all the toys, DVD's videos, etc.
1-6-2012: Q flag (quality flag) for beach Algarrobo!
Algarrobo beach received last week the Q-flag. Below the article which occurred in the local media:
'The 'Q' for 'Quality' flags will fly on nine beaches on the Costa del Sol this summer with the awards ceremony being held on June 5th.
The 'Q' flags relate to services and facilities on beaches in Spain and of the 173 awarded, 58 are in Andalucia. Beaches are judged on equipment, cleanliness, safety, lifesaving and information or services benefiting the tourist.
Surprisingly, considering that the eastern Costa del Sol has the highest volume of visitors, there are no 'Q' flags for this section of the coast.
The nine flags on the Costa del Sol are for: El Palo, Pedregalejo, Misericordia and El Dedo in Málaga city, Algarrobo-Mezquitilla, Torrecilla and Burriana in Nerja, Benajarafe and Torre del Mar.'

The Costa del Sol region
The Costa del Sol (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkosta ðel sol]; "Sunny Coast" or more literally, "Coast of the Sun") is a region in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, comprising the coastal towns and communities along the Mediterranean coastline of the Málaga province. The Costa del Sol is situated between two lesser known costas: Costa de la Luz and Costa Tropical. Formerly made up only of a series of small, quiet fishing settlements, the region has been completely transformed during the latter part of the 20th century into a tourist destination of world renown.
It includes the city of Málaga and the towns of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, Estepona, Manilva, Casares, Rincon de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Algarrobo, Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox. The Costa del Sol extends from the cliffs at Maro in the East to Punto Chullera in the west. Settlement in the region dates back to the Bronze Age, and has been colonised and ruled by many cultures such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Visigoths and Moors, before the Reconquista.
Historically its population lived in the fishing villages, and in the "white" villages a little distance inland, in the mountains running down to the coast. The area was discovered and developed to meet the demands of international tourism in the 1950s and has since been a popular destination for foreign tourists not only for its beaches but also for its local culture. The area is particularly famous for its towns like Marbella, which provides the Costa del Sol with its reputation for being a playground for its super-rich and famous visitors.
During the late 1970s and 1980s, the region was also known in the United Kingdom as the "Costa del Crime", due to the trend for British gangsters to escape from legal trouble at home by moving there to live their lives in luxury. Due to tense relations between the two nations over Gibraltar, extradition between the two countries was not followed. This phenomenon has been alluded to in television shows such as Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and in the more recent films Sexy Beast and The Business.[1][2]
The Costa del Sol is a popular tourist region that welcomes millions of people annually, who mostly arrive at International Malaga airport and head to one of the many resorts located along this stretch of coastline from Manilva in the west to Nerja in the east.[3][4]
The Algarrobo area
Algarrobo
Algarrobo village is a charming whitewashed village set in a majestic mountainous landscape in the Axarquia region, offering spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea. The village still retains a Moorish feel and the Rio (River) Algarrobo snakes through the village, giving it a very pleasant and natural feel.
The village is connected by road to the costal resort of Algarrobo-Costa, which is just 3 kilometres away, not far from Torre del Mar. The town is approximately 40 kilometres to the east of the city of Málaga, a journey of around 30 minutes.
Algarrobo village is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday away from the hustle and bustle, yet still be close enough to the action to enjoy it when the fancy takes you. With the attractions of Málaga just 30 minutes away, it's a wonderful spot for a getaway.
Places to see
Agarrobo is the starting point for the Route of Sun and Wine, which takes visitors through local vineyards, down to the natural coastal area of Torrox Costa and to the interesting monuments of the Castle Bago and Torre del Morche and Torre de Calaceite. The route stops at the coastal resort of Nerja.
Algarrobo Costa is a highly touristic area, with pleasant beaches and lots of attractions and facilities for holidaymakers.
History
Algarrobo dates back to Prehistoric age, in fact remains dating from the Bronze Age, Phoenician and Romans hav been found in the local area at El Moro de Mezquitilla.
Beaches
Algarrobo-Costa has a very pleasant beach. Visiting neighbouring Torre del Mar you will find more wide, sumptuous beaches. To the east of Algarrobo-Costa there are a number of other quieter coastal villages including Mezquitilla and Lagos, which are both charming seaside fishing villages.
Golf
The newly completed and highly attractive Baviera Golf Course is just a 10 minute drive away from Algarrobo.
Cuisine
There are a number of cafés, restaurants and tapas bars in Algarrobo, which are well worth trying out. Ir de Tapeo (go for Tapas) is always a relaxed, inexpensive way to dine out. On the coast you will find Chiringuitos (beach restaurants) who specialise in the tastiest, freshest seafood.
Climate
Algarrobo enjoys the sub-tropical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and warm winters. Algarrobo’s close proximity to the sea affords cooling breezes, which make the summer heat manageable; temperatures average 32 ºC in summer.
