The Andalucia / Granada Province region

The location is as the Spanish say, 'muy bonita'. In the springtime the hillsides are a riot of almond, peach, pomegranate and mimosa blossom. Our property is 1 hour from Granada and 1.5 from Malaga and adjoining the Provinces of Cordoba and Malaga.
Casa Mimos is set on the edge of the Subbetica National Park whose stunning scenery of olive groves set amongst soaring mountains contains some of the best walking and bird watching terrain in Andalucia. Many of the local villages are renowned for their beautiful Moorish and baroque architecture and the production of Olive Oil, Goats Cheese, Anis and Turon.
Iznajar - 30 mins away is a picture postcard town set on a rocky outcrop over a lake with soaring mountains in the distance. It has Moorish and Roman remains. Certainly a place to visit as the sun sets over the lake.
Priego de Cordoba - 35mins away, drive through rolling olive groves, farmhouse ruins and mountains. The old town is a maze of cobbled streets and the Balcon de Adarve walkway offers spectacular views. A very 'Spanish Town' with baroque architecture and amazing church interiors.
Casa Mimosa is ideally placed for exploring inland and coastal Andalucia. Whether you are touring by car, cycling or walking, on holiday or on business, Casa Mimosa offers a truly relaxing 'away from it all experience of rural Spain.
Further afield,
Alhambra and Generalife - a 'must see' but be sure to book your visit well in advance via the internet as daily visitor numbers are restricted. Generalife borders the Alhambra. These Moorish gardens were designed to recreate the Paradise depicted in the Koran; lush, tranquil gardens with abundant running waters, linked by walkways and open terraces, where the Moorish royals and courtiers could rest in peaceful seclusion. Beautiful and worth spending time there, visits to the gardens can be made separate from entry to the Alhambra palaces.
Guided walks and bus tours into the heart of and around Granada City are available.
The Science Park, sound boring but isn't, is near to Granada and provides a great day out for all ages. Features lots of interactive activities, a butterfly house, birds of prey display, exhibitions and a planetarium.
Aquaola Water Park is a paradise for children of all ages who are at their happiest when wet! Built on to the side of a hill just outside of Granada, there are activities to suit everyone; from Lake Iguazu - where you can negotiate the rapids on your rubber ring, ride the Kamikaze toboggans and try the Cyclone, a mind-blowing high speed spiral descent in complete darkness - to the Baňo de Venus where you can relax in warm, tranquil waters and, especially for the youngest members of the family, the Chaca de Balu, where adventure awaits on the Pirate Galleon. To finish your day you can dry off as you somersault through the air on the new 4 in 1 EuroBungy. The site has extensive gardens with picnic areas, a bar/restaurant and souvenir shop.
Sacromonte: The ancestral home of Granada's gypsy population, the flamenco and cave dwellings. The Gypsy clans of Sacromonte have produced many of Spain's finest flamenco artists and today some of the best flamenco performances are to be found in the area. Situated next to the Albaicin quarter and well signposted.
The Algarinejo area
Casa Mimosa is within 5 minutes walk of the town centre. It has several supermarkets, numerous small shops, bars and restaurants. Algarinejo is a typical small Spanish rural town, with very friendly people but only a little English is spoken so you will certainly get to practice your Spanish. There is a small museum, art gallery and a number of marked walks into the rolling countryside. There is also a local weekly market.
Tennis can be played locally and there are numerous marked local walks (during the summer they are best walked in the mornings). From the terraces of Casa Mimosa you can watch people working in the olive groves & shepherds walking their goats & sheep on the hillsides.
For the more active, horse riding, quad biking, canoeing, abseiling/climbing and potholing are available just a 40 min drive away. The nearest golf course is in Granada. The Subbetica National Park is close by for walking and bird watching.
The Subbetica is 32,000 hectacres of great walks and scenary for differing abilities. Some of the best walking is around Priego de Cordoba and Zuheros. Activites, gided walks, biking and rafting take place throughout most of the year and are organised by Subbetica Natural.
Throughout the year there are a number of local fiestas where you can dance, watch flamenco and sample tapas until the early hours. Priego de Cordoba, Rute and Loja are the nearest large towns approx 30 minutes drive. Each has many visitor attractions and their own local markets.
The last weekends in July and Aug are major local fiesta days, some local bars close the day following these fiestas so the staff can recover!

A stunning & beautiful place to stay, it is 'first class'. Algarinejo's charm & friendliness became more & more evident the more we visited. Derek & Linda Tomlin. Staffs. June 2011
A great stay and superb attention to detail. Looking forward to a ftre return. Kathy & Keith Parker. France 2011
The whole 2 weeks have been perfect, very relaxing and chilled out. The apartment and pool are lovely with everything we need. The village is beautifully traditional and the locals very friendly. Excellent tapas and Rioja which we tried a lot of! Denis & Pepe are an absolute joy and so full of fun, we've had a great time with them. Perfect location, perfect accommodation, perfect holiday. Pam & Dave Ward. Lancashire. 2010
This accommodation is a real 'gem'. It is a place where all the stress just fades away. It has been well equipped and the owners are extremely helpful. The pool area is beautiful with a fantastic backdrop of the olive groves. We have enjoyed visiting the nearby towns and villages and experiencing the real traditional Spain. A memorable holiday in every way. Witton family. Scotland. July 2009
