The Languedoc-Roussillon / Gard region

The department of Gard has the best of all worlds enjoying a Mediterranean climate, the breathtaking Cevennes mountains to the west, the city of Nimes to the east with its Roman amphitheatre and up-market shops, whilst to the south lie the Mediterranean beaches and unspoilt wildlife of the Camargue. On average the region enjoys around 300 days of sunshine a year with hot dry summers, and warm temperatures extending well into early autumn. Winters can be cold but are usually sunny, so much so that a coffee outside after Christmas lunch can be a distinct possibility! Spring comes early with May and June being much favoured times to visit this beautiful region, whilst the colours in autumn are spectacular.
