Apelle cottage is a rustic cottage situated in the 5 acre grounds of "La Fontaine"a stunning 17th century manor house which was once used as a stud farm and is known to be once the largest and most beautiful in france unfortunatly when the second world war broke out La fontaine was used as a air base mainly by the dutch and also held german prisioners of war which you can still see traces of today. After the war the estate was sold to madame perrier and ceased functioning as a stud farm, some of the old stable ruins and features can be seen today. The estate is now a family home offering holiday let facilities and in the process of being restored to its former glory. This self contained cottage has been elegantly decorated to compliment the period of the property and the origional charming features. The downstairs of the cottage has a dining area,a kitchen with breakfast bar,a living area with a log burning stove and a reading area all of which is open plan.It also has a downstairs toilet/bathroom.A beautiful original oak turned staircase will take you to the upstairs where there is 3 double bedrooms all with en-suite and 1 bedroom with bunkbeds and a single bed.The cottage has a private terrace and eating/bbq area with shared pool facilities. There is a wooden bridge off the terrace which takes you across the moat into a children's play area. The moat leads into a small lake where we have lots of fish, ducks and frogs! We have bicycles available for anyone feeling energetic and would like to go exploring the beautiful countryside or to take a trip down the new cycle path situated in our village which stretchs for 36kms!.We have 2 very friendly goats and 1very friendly old english sheep dog and plenty of wildlife. We are 3 miles from Alencon town centre.New for 2012 is our indoor games room which is 70metre square , it has a pool table childrens area football table and ping pong table ,darts and loads more its a great hangout for the kids(and adults of course).

It is traditionally known for its beautiful untouched countryside where you will find fields of apple trees growing to made local cider and calvados. It offers a pleasant climate with hot dry days throughout the summer and warm long evenings.Normandy also offers some of the finest and sandy beachs well known for the D-Day landings.Throughout Normandy you can find lots of historical towns and beautiful charming rustic villages offering lots of local cuisine such as bodin sausages, cheeses and fruit ciders.
Alencon town centre which is famous for "Lace making" and its stunning "Notre Dame"cathederal is a pretty market town with lots of good eating places, shops, brocantes and museums. There is an indoor/outdoor swimming pool and a lovely park which has animals and a play area it also hosts weekly events throughout the summer. There is a beautiful old train line that has been turned into a cycling/walking track with runs from Alencon through our village(semalle)and continues for 36kms.On the outskirts of Alencon you have the forest d,ecoves which is perfect for walking, cycling, pony trecking and picnics,The alpes mancelles is only 10 min drive and has the most increadable views of the countryside together with some of the most prettiest villages in france.Bangnoles de l"orne has a beautiful chateau and casino. The Harras du Pin is the national stud farm and is only 20min drive where you will see spectacular dancing horse events on throughout the summer. If you prefer a bit more excitement Le Mans which is famous for its 24hr motor racing is nearby and very accessable by train or car.

I am extremeley disappointed in your comments as this review has a major effect on our buisness. Nobody has ever ever complained about our property and we get repeat booking year after year.I wish if you had a problem you could of told me without putting these comments on the internet. This property is a rental property we do not put 5 star equipment in it. I do think you choose the wrong path to stay in a rented cottage and maybe the standards you are used to is 5 star hotels.

"Everything was perfect!!"
The cottage was lovely. The pool and games room were an added bonus. The surrounding areas were also lovely to visit. The supermarket was close to get to by car as well the local services for petrol. We managed a day trip by train to Paris, which was reasonbly priced. The owners were very helpful and it was a pleasure to stay at Apelle Cottage with all its history. Beautiful.
