The East Anglia / Suffolk region
Suffolk remains on of England's least spoilt counties, forming part of East Anglian region. The east coast in particular is known for it's two famous towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold with many other pretty villages in the area and the Quirky but charming Thorpeness. Officially designated as a heritage coastline the the area has abundance of open countryside , long uninterrupted beaches and of course that marvelously relaxing sea air. The area is steeped in history with castles to visit at Orford and Framlingham and the world famous archaeological site at Sutton Hoo. There are plenty of opportunities to pursue other hobbies such as sailing, bird watching, golf , horse riding or indeed shopping in any of the market towns in the area or the County town of Ipswich with its rejuvenated dock area and large shopping centre.
The Aldeburgh area
Aldeburgh is renowned for its arts and music but offers so much more with coastal walks, golf , and many other attractions. There is a wide range of places to eat with walking distance of the house but also many fine country pubs with in a short drive. For self caterers there area local shops and supermarkets selling local produce and fresh fish available on the beach. The traditional Aldeburgh Arts and Music festival in June is an international event based at the near by Snape maltings but there are many other smaller events through out the year. In additional there are many local events such as the Aldeburgh carnival and Thorpeness Regatta in August. More simply just soak up the atmosphere of this charming seaside town with its wide High street with Cafe's, boutiques to help while away the day.

We had a lovely holiday in Aldeburgh with my 16 year old daughter and her friend. The house was full of olde world charm with modern facilities, well equiped and very homely and welcoming thanks to the very thoughtful owners! It's a great little town for a holiday, its more like a little English village by the sea really! It was busy when we were there which gave it a wonderful holiday atmosphere and there's lots to see and do in the area. Its one of the best holiday's we have spent in this country and although we normally stay in a hotel on holiday we found the holiday house far more relaxing, the freedom to come and go with no restrictions, so close to everything, led to a very "stress free" holiday for all. We look forward to returning to this lovely house by the sea in the not too distant future hopefully! |
