Can Cladera is a rare find with it's location being key to this villas success. Situated onyl 100m for the popualr Puort D'Alcudia beach famous for it's white soft sand and shallow waters. Numerous shops and restaurants can be found in the immediate area making this one of the most convenient locations for a beach holiday, yet nestled amongst other private villas you are stilla fforded privacy. The Albufera nature reserve is less than 400m away.

Despite it's close proximity to the sea, the villa also benefits from a private pool for those seeking their own space in which to enjoy the water. With a purpose bulit BBQ and alfreaco dining area to the side of the house and gardens beyond the grounds are deceptively large.

Inside the villa offer clean white lines and a feeling of space. Can Cladera has proven to be a popular villa for groups and families, it's location and size are extremely hard to come by.

Alcudia

We are pleased to offer a selection of villas in Alcudia. The town of Alcudia and the compact port of Alcudia are situated on the neck of one of Mallorca's northern peninsulas. Many visitors take an Alcudia holiday for the beach alone with its 11 km of curving white sand that shelves gently into the sea. There are many beach-side cafés and restaurants and a great variety of water sports to be enjoyed as well as other local activities to keep you occupied including horse riding and golf. The nightlife is centred around the local bars and night-clubs which are lively but not rowdy.

Alcudia is just what you would expect from a beach holiday, with a range of nearby cultural sites to visit as well. There is the walled town of Alcudia itself, with Roman ruins where a lovely Sunday market is held regularly.

The port of Alcudia and the old fishing village are at the northern end of the beach. Here you will find a tight grid of streets with restaurants and gift shops lining the sea front and more traditional Spanish style shops and cafés in the streets behind, with an abundance of seafood restaurants in all areas.

The Albufera, a marshy wetland, is a wildlife reserve popular with birdwatchers and is a ten minute drive away from Alcudia. The spectacular mountainous region in the west of the island towards the old town of Pollensa is a 15 minute drive away.

Further a field there are unspoilt mountain villages with stunning scenery, beaches and coves off the beaten track. The cosmopolitan city of Palma, capital of Mallorca, is just 50 kilometres away.

"Can Cladera - A Very Dissappointing Stay"

We chose this property because we were advised by the villa company that it was close to the beach, beautiful cafes and shops and plenty of restaurants. It would also be big enough for our large family group including my 18 month old daughter. From the photos on the website it looks spacious and luxurious and we expected to holiday in comfort

However, in reality this villa is very average. It's furnished to very basic standards. It's built to sub standards and every creak can be heard all over the house. Close a door and you hear it all over the house. Beds are extremely uncomfortable and make huge cracking noises everytime you move slightly. Mattresses are hard. The villa had not been cleaned properly after the last guests. Black pubic hairs and long hairs were all over the master ensuite and bedroom. Tile floors in other bathrooms were grubby. Towels provided were thin, worn out, hard, off white and insufficient in quantity for the guests staying. Drying yourself with one of the towels was like using sandpaper. When we arrived there was only 1 set of towels as the villa company thought there was only 1 guest staying even though at the time of booking I advised them of our party number and because there would be 1 extra guest they even contacted us and charged us for extra insurance.

There is a stone spiral stairs leading up to the master bedroom is extremely steep with sharp edged steps. There is a support rail only on one side. The villa company did not tell us about this. It certainly is not suitable for children, elderly people or anyone with any type of injury or mobility problems.

The back garden area of the villa is scruffy and unfinished- the clothes line is down in a dip and is dangerous for little children as they can fall over into it. The swimming pool is directly outside the back door which is extremely dangerous for children as they can easily fall in. This was not made clear to us by the villa company. The pool should be fenced off to make it safe for familes with young children ad as presently it is too dangerous. We had to keep all doors locked at all times and hide the keys from our daughter. This was a constant worry as she is old enough to open doors but too young to have any sense about the pool. We had to be very vigilant with her and if the villa company had been more open about the pool location we would not have booked this villa.

The villa is a 1 minute walk from the beach which is fantastic. However there are very few restaurants in the immediate vicinity. There is a lovely restaurant called Bar Hawaii at the end of our road and Rafa and the guys there could not have been nicer or more helpful. The food is also top notch too and it is affordable. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and we enjoyed lots of meals there during our stay. However apart from this little treasure there are very few other options in the immediate area. If you take a right at the top of the road a 45 minute brisk walk will take you to the Port of Alcudia. Enroute you will have to endure what's known as the 'greasy mile'.A horrible tacky string of burger joints, pizza cafes, cheap nasty souvenir shops and faux Brit style pubs- they even have a Queen Victoria pub so think Eastenders in the sun. We were really dissappointed at this as we were led to believe we would be located close to lots of upmarket beautiful eateries and shops. A left at the top of the road and a 15-20 minute brisk will also bring you past some tacky joints but up closer to (30 mins walk) Playa Muro you will find one nice little enclave of shops and a nice cafes. But I hasten to add you will need to walk to find these and they are certainly not outside your door as we were advised.

My problem with Can Cladera is really the description on the website. The villa company do not state where exactly it is. It is neither in the old town of Alcudia or the Port. It is a 1 hour brisk walk to the old town and a 45 minute walk to the Port and if we had been told this we would have booked a place closer to either the old town or the port. We did not want to be stuck in a place near neither of these locations and we told the villa company about our preferences before booking. On their advice we booked this villa.. Overall The villa is of a 2 star standard and the villa company should not dress up the images to make it look so salubrious. It is not suitable for babies/ young chilren because of the pool. If the villa company want to make it child friendly they should fence off the pool. Also all potential guests should be told about the dangerous spiral stairs. It's just not fair not to tell people what they are getting before they book and pay.

After much haggling and half a day spent wasted in an internet cafe checking their website we were offered another villa-. Thankfully we had the sense to check this villa before making the move. It was closer to the old town but you would need to walk along a busy main road to get to the town. We were told it was also close to the beach but on inspection the beach was merely a pile of stones or a 'natural beach'. Locals told us it is not safe for swimming. On the villa company's website none of this is made clear. I think it's so convenient to book your holiday online but villa management companies need to let their customers know exactly what they are getting for their money. More details, description, plan of villa, honest images and a grading system should be available. Our villa wasn't cheap and in return we expect a high level of comfort and a safe place to holiday for our daugter. My advice is ask lots of questions before you book and never rely on the photos the villa website provide you with and if you are not happy with what you get then let them know. I made our feelings very clear but in this case the villa company did not seem to take on board the problems I had. I never write reviews but in this case I feel compelled to as I don't want other people to fall in to the same trap.

I am glad the local rep was able to assist in finding a suitable alternative villa. We provide local representatives to ensure high standards and if the villa was failing in standard of cleanliness or any other reason we will of course act quickly to rectify any problems. Do do provide an exact aerial view location map of all our villas on our site with distances to the nearest beach shop and restaurant. There are a number of good quality restaurants within walking distance of the villa, however the Marina and main town is 2.5km up the road so around 25 minutes walk. We try to provide as much information as possible for our guests to make judgement on the villas suitability and fromt he aerial map it is clear that the town is some distance way, however the information provided is correct and the villa offers excellent value for money for the size and location.
