This is the second largest of six cottages on a very quiet secluded country site (Quinta Urbano) which was previously a working farm. The quinta is surrounded by farmland, and the owner lives on-site in one of the cottages. The overall site is sufficiently large to provide privacy yet allow a larger group or family to rent two (or more) cottages and share time together as and when they wish.

All the rental cottages are being refurbished during 2013-5 with the intention of all being in use by 2015, this is the first to be completed. The second (Quintinho) was completed in late 2013 and the third (A Quinta) is expected to be finished by the summer of 2014.

Casa das Oliveiras (The House of the Olive Trees) is the second largest of the cottages, set in the remains of an old olive grove, with it's own a separate car entrance and parking area. It has a private garden area with a barbecue and shares a swimming pool with another cottage (which will not be in use before 2015) about 25 metres away.

The large dining/sitting room (7 metres by 4 metres) has patio doors to a small tiled patio area with a table and chairs, this is at ground level and opens direct onto a grassed area leading to the pool.

The accommodation totals approximately 100 sq metres and is all on one level with no steps making it ideal for the less mobile.

The double bedroom has an on-suite shower room, a full bathroom is situated between the two bedrooms. A floor plan is provided as the last of the pictures.

Electricity, water and bottled gas for cooking are included.

We suggest that all the cottages at Quinta Urbano are unsuitable for toddlers due to the open-plan nature of the site with stone walls, farm fences and the proximity of the two pools to the cottages and lawns. A small cot, with linen, for babies can be provided at no cost.

Several horses and foals live in a paddock onsite, the owner can offer day-time carriage rides in the local countryside if wanted.

The site is located on the outskirts of the small hamlet of Monte Raposos and is only 3 Km from the small town of Alcantarilha where there are small local shops and several cafe's. There is also an ALDI supermarket at the far side of the town. The beach resort of Armacao de Pera is about 7Km away. There is easy access to the A22 motorway (a toll road) for Faro airport which is a 40 Km drive.

To the north the wild countryside of the Alentejo wine growing area is only about a 45 minute drive away, offering stunning scenery and wonderful walks. The Algarve coast offers great sea views and cliff-top walks, in addition to the traditional sandy beaches.

The Algarve region

The Algarve is the traditional holiday region of Portugal with hundreds of small bays, sandy beaches etc. all along the coast. Large coastal resort towns such as Albufeira (15Km to the east) attract vast numbers of tourists and provide an active night life, clubs etc are open until the small hours. Sausage Egg and Chips 24 hours a day!

Only 22 Km to the west is the large town of Portimao which has a large range of shops, many restaurants, museums, a theatre and a port from which cruises are available by fishing boat along the coast. Just over the Arade River from Portimao (in walking distance) is the fishing village/resort of Ferragudo with more restaurants including three down on the large sandy beach.

The many smaller towns, particularly those away from the coast, provide more traditional Portuguese living and dining. Excellent meals, both Portuguese and International, can be found for very reasonable prices away from the coastal resorts. Many small cafes still offer a traditional 'working' lunch including a small jug of wine or a beer for around 7 Euro. Top quality restaurants are also to be found with extensive menus and still reasonable prices - by northern European standards.

The Algarve coast offers great walking opportunities along cliff-tops with stunning sea and cliff views.

The Algarve is not only 'sun sand and sea', further inland the hills of the Alentajo area offer very different country walks with, again, some stunning scenery.

Alcantarilha

The cottage is set on what was previously a small Portuguese farm and is surrounded by other small farms. A quiet rural setting perfect for a relaxing holiday away from crowds and hustle. The tiny hamlet of Montes Raposos is a 5 minute walk away, with a tiny local shop and cafe (both run by an old lady who nips through the connecting door as needed). The nearest small town is Alcantarilha, just 3 Km away where there are several small cafes and bars and a good restaurant, also a pharmacy (speak good English) and an ALDI supermarket.

If you are interested in golf, the 'Ocianico Faldo' (Amendoeira) Course is only about a five minute drive away, the back of the course is within easy walking distance.

Within a short drive there are three 'Water Parks' - days out much enjoyed by children!

The nearest seaside resort is Armacao de Pera, about a ten minute drive away, with several Km of excellent beach and sand dunes. The local fishermen make the central part of the beach picturesque with brightly painted boats and nets being repaired and hung out to dry. The town has many shops and several good restaurants, including some right on the beach. Head to the eastern end of the beach for the miles of sand or the western end for the shops and restaurants.
