Home description
This magnificent brand new property has everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible whilst providing a base for exploration. Castillo de Locubin (Castle of the Eagles) is a traditional village but its position is ideal for exploring the Region with Granada, Coroba, Jaen, Malaga and Seville all within reach of the day tripper. The apartment is positioned in the centre of the village with bars restaurants, shops and the most beautiful little tree lined park which hosts the Monday market.
We have furnished the property in a contemporary style but with emphasis on comfort. Huge leather sofas, for example, are grouped around a large screen TV which will provided you with all the ITV and BBC English channels. The apartment also benefits from double glazing, gas fired central heating and 4 indivually controlled air conditioning units. The terraces are private, total more than 550sq.ft. and entetred by any of 6 double glazed patio doors. There are outdoor dining facilities and comfortable reclining sunloungers. Living in Spain is good but you do not have to neglect your home comforts.
We are promoting the property as a comfortable base for further exploration of the Granada, Jaen, Cordoba and Malaga provinces. The village of Castillo de Locubin is very close to the borders of all these regions. To this end we have put together details of places and routes of interest, all of which we have experienced. We would be happy to provide these upon request.

The Inland Andalucia / Jaen Province region
Both Castillo de Locubin and Alcala are on the 'Route of the Caliphate' which is an age old Moorish route between Cordoba and Granada. To quote : 'this route proposes an enticing adventure for the spirit between two shining stars of the fabulous legacy of Andalucia.' I have good books on the subject. The route of Washington Irvine also passes close by. In this route, between Seville and Granada, the village of Montefrio is given good mention. A little further afield is Alhama de Granada which is home to a famous natural hot spa which still gushes from the ground at 40 degrees celsius and much visited centuries earlier as part of the European Tour by the likes of Lord Byron. At the other end of the scale we have the mountaintop village of Zuheros with its much visited prehistoric caves and restaurants with fabulous views. The village has played host to David Beckham and the rest of the Real Madrid team. These are but a few of the places within easy reach. We have yet to mention olive trees by the million, golden wheat fields, the heady scents of cherry and almond blossom, the old man and his donkey, whitewashed villages, the goatherder and his dogs, and (of course) the magic of the Alhambra palace in Granada. It is little wonder that we have no further use for the coast.
Alcala La Real / Castillo de Locubin area
Castillo de Locubin is a large traditional village of about 8,000 inhabitants with a full range of shops, bars, restaurants and banks etc. There is a small market on Mondays in the park, which on other days gives way to a meeting place for all the old men of the village. They seem to live forever here. The park is less than two minutes on foot from the apartment. Frequent buses run between here and the nearest town of Alcala la Real (pop 21,000), which is about 10Km away. Alcala is quite vibrant with a very good range of quality shops and a greater variety of bars and restaurants. Market day here is Tuesday. Throughout the year there are many feasts and festivals. Here in Castillo our favourate takes place in June and co-incides with the cherry harvest. You would never believe the taste and variety of the local produce. In July the hippies arrive from all over the continent for their own 'alternative' festival. One whole week of colour, dubious foodstuffs, strange smelling tobacco and surprising craftmanship. The main fair (feria) is in September but there are travelling circuses and mobile bullrings galore inbetween. In winter the pace slows but the months of December and January are warm and settled. This is when the olives are harvested. Two months of beating trees with sticks. In winter you can take to the ski resorts. The Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is close to Granada and the city is only 50 minutes away. The Ski resort boasts the best snow and the longest season in the country - 5 months of snow. There are 60Km of slopes, 45 pistes, 6 off piste routes, 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. Other facilities include husky sleds, snowboarding and a tourist train which runs around the resort. It would be impossible to list all places of interest but my favourates include Priego de Cordoba, which is only 20 Km from Castillo. A tourist town full of restaurants, shops and famous for its baroque architecture. Montefrio (25Km) is a picture perfect village complete with hilltop castle and prehistoric sites. If you like hilltop castles you would have to travel a long way to beat the one at Alcala la Real.
