The Costa del Sol region


The Costa del Sol is one of Europe's most popular year-round holiday spots, stretching 160 kilometres to the east and west of Malaga on the south coast of Spain. The name translates as "Sunny Coast", "Sunshine Coast" or more literally, Coast of the Sun. Miles of magnificent beaches cater for sun soakers, watersports enthusiasts and celebrity spotters. The rich and famous are to be found in swanky Puerto Banus on their multi-million pound yachts.
If you're a golfer, you've come to the right place. The fine weather allows golf to be popular all year round on the Costa del Sol. In recent years the Costa Del Sol has become known to golf enthusiasts as the "Costa Del Golf" due to the number of high quality golf courses. This is truly the golfing Mecca of Europe with nearly 60 courses in Andalucia including 30 along the coast between Gibraltar and Malaga, attracting golfers from all over Europe and the rest of the world.
The waters off the coast of Andalucia are home to a large population of whales and dolphins.
The Alcaidesa / Marina de la Alcaidesa area
Alcaidesa is a peaceful residential estate and tourist development enjoying beautiful Mediterranean views with an unbeatable beachfront location between Sotogrande and San Roque. The two kilometers stretch accompanying the village has earned blue flag status for meeting high standards regarding cleanliness and environmental friendliness. The village square is located in the centre of Alcaidesa where local amenities include supermarket, pharmacy and bars/restaurants.
The town of Sotogrande can be reached within a few minutes and is ideal for a day out. Numerous excellent restaurants and bars, a variety of sports facilities, countless shops and a marina where impressive yachts can be found await you. Another popular destination is Gibraltar with its duty free shops. The “Rock” is also famous for its apes and the caves that can be visited.
Other nearby destinations include the charming town of Marbella with its romantic old town, the exclusive Puerto Banus where luxury yachts, boutiques, restaurants, bars and clubs are located and the town of Tarifa, famous for its fantastic beaches and water sports. For the adventurous, Morocco is just a 30 minute ferry ride from Tarifa, where you can meet your personal guide at the ferry port for a private tour of Tangier.
During your leisure time you can also practise your swing on one of the nearby golf courses with Alcaidesa Links, San Roque, Almenara, and La Cala established as some of the finest in Europe.

Alcaidesa is located at junction 124 on the main motorway (AP-7/E15), easily accessed by car from nearby airports Malaga (60 mins ), Gibraltar (15 mins) and Jerez (60 mins).
Cheap car hire available through www.travelsupermarket.com such as crown car hire, easyjet and arrow cars. The major car hire companies are based at the airports though easier to hire from the Spanish side of the border in Gibraltar.

The apartment was excellent; it directly overlooks one of the four swimming pools on the urbanization and has stunning views over the sea to Gibraltear (and Africa on a clear day). The apartment was spotlessly clean (even my wife, a hard woman to impress, gave it the thumbs up!) and the owners provided plenty of towels and linens. Lots to do in the area; golf, waterparks, the beach, fantastic restaurants, etc. but you will definitely need a car. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. |

We highly recommend this apartment. It was very clean and beautifully presented. The view of Gibralter from the balcony was stunning. Good underground car park and a lovely pool right in front. We know the area well so we had no difficulty getting around but you definitely need a car to make the most of what's on offer. The booking process was courteous and efficient. We enjoyed our holiday and would use this apartment again. |
