About the home

Spacious 1 and 2-bedroom apartments situated at the edge of the small village of Portella de Messines. It is a very pretty spot offering peace and privacy close to the pleasant inland town of Sao Bartolomeu de Messines (commonly referred to as Messines), which lies about 15km north of Albufeira (15 Min by car) in the centre of the Algarve and is only 30 minutes by car from Faro Airport. It is a convenient base for enjoying the beautiful southern Portuguese countryside and visiting the many other interesting inland towns and coastal resorts. Try Villa Feliz for an enjoyable and most comfortable alternative to the traditional package holiday. If you are new to 'non package' holidays, we will be pleased to advise and help you make travel arrangements.

Facilities

The two-bedroom apartment sleeps up to a maximum of 6 people and the one bedroom apartments 4 people.. The bedrooms have twin beds and double bed settees in the lounges. Each bedroom has single divan type beds which can be pulled together to make a double. A good size comfortable double bed is also provided in the lounge area and an extra fold up bed and cot are also available for additional children etc.

The lounge/diner is tastefully furnished with cane and pine furniture. Patio doors lead to the balcony with its own table and chairs. The kitchen has a gas cooker and refrigerator. The apartment is fully equipped with linen, towels, cutlery, crockery etc.

Private garden area leading to the large swimming pool with children's section. Sun loungers are provided.

Heaters are available for cool winter evenings.

Linen and towels are changed weekly or more frequently if requested. Beach and pool towels are not provided.

The ground floor two bedroom apartments are accessible by wheel chairs but there are several single shallow steps where assistance would most probably be required.

Note: We cannot, however, accept liability for changes or cancellations caused as a result of unusual or unforseable circumstances beyond our control, the consequence of which we could not have avoided, even with all due care (eg. natural or other disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire, failure of main water or electrical services).

The prices stated when we confirm accommodation will not be changed. We do reserve the right to change our advertised prices, if necessary, due to circumstances out of our control (eg. significant currency change).

Damage to the property or accommodation caused by you or any member of your party will be chargeable. We do not normally charge for minor breakages eg. a glass or cup etc., however, we do ask that you notify breakages and damage as soon as possible to enable us to prepare properly for the next client.

Note: We reserve the right to terminate arrangements of any client, who in our opinion, is casing distress, annoyance or danger to any other clients, employees, or third party, or damage to property. In this situation our responsibility for accommodating the person/s concerned will immediately cease and we will not be responsible to pay compensation or make a refund.

We cannot take responsibility for any loss of personal property (eg. jewellery, money etc.) or injury to any client caused by his/her own negligence (see also Health & Safety below). Accordingly, we strongly advise that you take out suitable holiday insurance at the time of booking.

Swimming Pool
It is not possible for us to keep the swimming pool under supervision or surveillance and accordingly anyone using the pool does so at their own risk; the safety of children is at all times the responsibility of parents. NB. Running round the pool is dangerous, particularly when the tiles are wet and careless diving, particularly into shallow water can cause injury. Our recommendation is not to dive into the pool.

Drinking Water
Residential water on the Algarve comes from a variety of sources, bore holes, cisterna's (storage tanks), and main supplies. Villa Feliz has all three. The Algarve does not have a reputation for poor quality water, but we advise that you use bottle water for drinking, which can be purchased in local shops. We also have a filtered water tap on site, used by the owners and for use by clients, which we understand from the manufacturer's claims, that this water is drinking quality.

Food
We recommend that fresh fruit and salads be washed with boiled water before eating.

The Algarve / Central Algarve region

The Algarve has a wonderful climate with plenty of sunshine and daily temperatures that do not usually drop below 60F(16C) in the winter or go above 90F(32C) in the summer. It is popular for golf, waterskiing, waterslide parks, windsurfing, sailing, tennis and horse riding. The Algarve is on the Atlantic coast which provides lovely cooling breezes which can be far less stifling than Mediterranean resorts.

The Algarve is much more than a summer resort, because it offers unique holiday qualities in the spring and autumn months. From Almond blossom time in January to the end of March, visitors will find the climate warmer than at home and ideal for many activities.

There is plenty of sunshine in these months, but without the intensity of midsummer, and the air temperatures are ideal for walking, touring etc.. Some rain can be expected, but the result is a greener terrain than in neighbouring Spain. It is also a time when many would say the countryside is at its best with wonderful displays of wild flowers in bloom.

An added bonus is that prices at off-peak times are appreciably lower than during the peak summer period.
For some, winter is also an appealing time to take a holiday for this is when it is truly quiet and relaxing, and when life reverts to a leisurely rural pace. Some rain can be expected in these months, but the result is a greener terrain than in neighbouring Spain.

The Algarve is now Europe's most popular golfing destination. There are 32 spectacular courses along the coast, five of which are just a 15 to 20 minute drive from Villa feliz. Please ask for our 'preferential golfing rates' or further information.

The Algarve can be a very comfortable and enjoyable alternative to the prolonged and dreary UK winter and Villa Feliz is a good place for a holiday in all seasons.

The Albufeira / Portella de Messines area

Villa Feliz is a convenient base for enjoying the beautiful southern Portuguese countryside and visiting the
many other interesting inland towns and coastal resorts. If you feel a little more energetic, historic Lisbon is a two hour car journey away.

We have welcoming local country bars and restaurants, which offer better value than the coastal resorts, and you will also savour the character and atmosphere of Portugal. The local people are friendly, especially if you make an effort with your phrase book.

Main shopping can be done in Messines or, for immediate needs, there is a small general shop only a few minutes walk from Villa Feliz. If you want sandy beaches or night life, they’re only a 20 minute drive away. For golfers, there are many superb courses from which to choose in an area 25 to 40 minutes drive from
Villa Feliz.

Villa Feliz is only 30 minutes from Faro Airport and is only 5 minutes from a motorway connection for easy access to all locations ie locally and Lisbon, Seville etc.

"We have stayed at Villa Feliz many times over the last 10 yrs. It is in a lovely quiet location away from all the bustle along the coast, yet only a 20 min drive to get to the beaches. The locals are very friendly in the local shop & bar which are only a short walk away. The pool is lovely and large so you can have a proper swim, not just a dunk! In fact my children 13 & 8, only let us go to the beach once in a fort-night, they loved the pool so much !
There are plenty of local restaurants nearby, but many are tucked away, ask Peter or Fenella for directions !
If you want night-life, English pubs/breakfasts etc then no, you will not enjoy this villa. But for a relaxing holiday with a touch of the real Portugal you could do no better than Villa Feliz."

"Just returned from a lovely break at Villa Feliz. Peace and quiet away from the hubbub of the coast, yet only about 20 minutes from Albufeira. Beautiful views and lovely sunsets especially from the end of the pool terrace or up in nearby Alte. Great little restaurants and bars nearby for ‘proper’ Portugese food at good prices. Within easy reach of everywhere we wanted to see and do. Perfect. Thanks for a lovely holiday and all the helpful advice. Definitely be coming back."

"My wife and I have stayed at Villa Feliz on numerous occasions,I work abroad a lot (middle east) and find Portella de Messines a relaxing friendly area, the villa is set away from the small village shop and bar (a two minute walk down a tranquil lane with the scent of orange lemon blossom and the local bird life for company) the villa/ apartment is well kept and cleaned to a very high standard, the locals are a welcoming friendly people, who love to talk and practice English (especially the kids) in Messines the supermarkets are well stocked and price are cheaper than in Faro, and Alberfuria, as are the bars. There are 4 well appointed restaurants within a five minute drive of the property, all are exceptional and the menus are mouthwatering with wild boar /venison steaks and for the veggies, plenty of choice, early spring is a great time to see almond blossoms like snow on the landscape, and summer is fantastic not too hot. Overall a great place."
