The Algarve region
The Algarve is an extremely popular holiday destination due to its mild climate. It has some of the best weather conditions in all Europe, being perfect for all sort of activities throughout the year. The blossoming almond trees in January welcome a long spring, followed by a sunny beach summer and a mild Autumn which allows visitors to enjoy late escapes prior to the busy Christmas rush. A real year-round destination!
Albufeira is one of the most popular resorts in the Algarve. It is a bustling town, yet still manages to retain much of the original charm and character of its fishing village history. You can explore the Old Town with its maze of narrow white cobbled streets, home to a vast array of shops, bars and restaurants serving traditional and cosmopolitan fare. Albufeira has two beaches: the golden sands of the Town Beach with bars, restaurants and water sports, reached via a tunnel through the cliff side, and Fishermen's Beach with its wide sandy shore often lined with brightly painted fishing boats. To the east of the Old Town is the area known as "The Strip", a multitude of shops, bars, restaurants and clubs running from Montechoro to the beach at Praia da Oura.
Just to the west of Albufeira is the brand new Marina which provides an alternative venue for eating, drinking and watching the world go by. Visitors can use the popular 5-a-side football pitch. Many working fishing boats and pleasure craft can be seen in the Old Harbour adjoining.
A short drive to the west brings you to a selection of delightful coves and long sandy beaches, suitable for diving, snorkelling, surfing and indulging in a variety of other watersports.
The area really does have something for everyone - as well as the many superb golf courses for which the Algarve is famous, there are aqua-parks and zoos, and many attractive villages to explore in the hills behind Albufeira.

"Great location with amazing views"
Excellent apartment located just above the old town and the sea. Lots of shops, resturants and bars nearby with its own poolbar/restaurant.
The roof terraces are lovely with a wonderful veiw of the sea front and back (in fact the veiws from the downstairs windows were good too). They could get quite windy but to be fair we had some bad weather at the beginning of our stay so really felt it but once the sunshine came out in all its glory and the wind turned to breeze it was very welcome!
The apartment also had some music games and DVDs and also a good range of books (which we donated too) along with a pack of information on things to do, see, eat and drink.
The owners were very helpful with arranging transfers and answering queries and questions which made the whole process a breeze. The agents were close by (not that we needed them but they helped with our return taxis) and the reception had storage areas for our bags on the day of departure.
One thing I'd like to say is don't let the reveiws about the hills from Windmill Hill put you off!!
There are hills and steps down to the town which you obviously need to walk back up again, however the old town is down hill from most places in alburferia, its up and down all the time.
We had a lovely time here and I definately recommend it as a good place to relax, eat drink and be merry!
