The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Algarve is possibly Europe's sunniest spot, a special jewel where the finest beaches and weather on the continent meet traditional historic Portugal, a mixture of resorts and traditional whitewashed villages nestled amongst the lemon groves and red earth. There is pretty much something for everyone here, from the busy beaches and nightclubs of Albufeira to the quiet historic town of Silves ( the old Moorish capital), the bustling market at Loule and the hills of Monchique to the west of the region.
Albufeira / Ferreiras area
Albufeira is possibly the busiest resort in Portugal it hosts plentiful collection of bars, restaurants and clubs which start to fill-up with people as the sun sets. A fine selection of good beaches extend east and west from the town including Praia de Balaia, Praia de Castelo, Praia de Falésia, Praia de Galé.
The local market has the farmers and fishermen arriving early in the morning with their produce. It is home to an excellent bakery, possibly the best chicken peri-peri and suckling pig restaurant in the Algarve and a selection of other eateries and bars. The largest shopping centre in the Algarve, with more than 100 shops, cinema, bowling alley and food court is only five minutes' drive away.
