The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn region

Three beautiful historic towns, all dating back to the Cathar uprising in the 13th century, are within easy reach. They all have festivals and musical concerts , both jazz and classical, in the summer months

* Cordes sur Ciel - (10 minutes by car) is a stunning bastide town. As you wander through its narrow cobbled streets winding up through stone archways you will discover the shops and studios of all manner of artists and shops selling leather and other local handicrafts. At the top there are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
* Gaillac (10 minutes) - is another attractive, medieval market town, on the river Tarn. It is the centre of the Gaillac wine industry and has an abbey dating back to 1271.
* Albi (15 minutes) - was the capital city of the Cathars (or Albigensians). Its vast Saint-Cecile cathedral dominates the medieval town, which sits astride the river Tarn. Toulouse Lautrec was born here and is celebrated in the Toulouse Lautrec museum. The city has a theatre and a wide range of cultural activities.
* Toulouse (less than 1 hour) - is France's 4th largest city. It is called 'la ville rose' becase of the red brick from which its medieval houses are built. However, it is also a modern city and its leading role in the aerospace industry is celebrated in the Cite de L'Espace, interactive space park.
* Other nearby bastide towns well worth visiting are Puycelsi, Catelnau de Montmiral, Bruniquel and many others.

Further details outdoors:
'Puech Blanc' is situated centrally in the 'golden triangle' formed by the medieval market towns of Cordes, Gaillac and Albi. This area forms the heart of the Gaillac wine region which was first established by the Romans.

The stunning surrounding countryside provides excellent walking and cycling facilities. You can set off directly from 'Puech Blanc' into the vineyards which are open for all to wander through. We are central to the 60 or so wine domains which comprise the famous Gaillac wine, you will have fun visiting them as they are very often open to the public and you are welcome to taste and buy their wines.

There are two forests close by where you are free to wander so the potential for walking, picnics, horse riding and cycling is endless. You can also have great fun renting canoes or kayaks on either the Tarn or Avyron rivers.

The garden has many fruit tree and you are free to pick and enjoy the real taste of fresh fruit. You can get your own eggs from the hen house and we can provide you with home made bread.

Albi is 20 minutes away and is home to the Toulouse-Lautrec museum and has many shops, restaurants and relaxing cafés. Here you will also find a magnificent 18 hole golf club within a large bend in the river Tarn which is open to public – the clubhouse is an 18th century chateaux, and all necessary equipment is available for rent.

Gaillac is our local market town 10 minutes down the country lane that passes near 'Puech Blanc', the local Friday Gaillac market attracts the regions farmers, and where you will find an amazing range of local natural products and live animals. Cordes is a historic medieval town 15 minutes away and is always very popular with visitors to the region.

Throughout the year there are lots of cultural activities such as the weekly music festival in Gaillac and the medieval pageant in Cordes.
