Little Wood
About the home
Our Trullo is named the Little Wood, and nestles in countryside between Alberobello, which is the centre of the Trullo world, and Locorotondo, another lovely little Italian town. Little Wood is ideally located for many of the tourist attractions in Puglia, such as Lecce, Martina Franca and Otranto - of course the Adriatic is just a 30 minute drive away.
The real beauty of our home is the tranquillity - set in countryside as it is, it is a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle we encounter in our working lives.
When you explore the land, you'll find the vineyard, masses of olive trees, and a mixture of additional trees - cherry, plum, passion fruit, walnut, fig and so on. If anyone in the party is particularly tired, then just use the hammock under the fir trees by the house, and listen to the breeze gently whistling through the firs!

Further details indoors:
The Trullo has been completely renovated, containing 3 double bedrooms, a kitchen/diner & lounge.
The main bedroom has an en suite, & there is a separate family bathroom. Central heating is provided throughout & all the appliances you need to make your holiday a carefree experience are there for your convenience – washing machine, dishwasher, oven & hob, plasma screen with Sky TV & a music centre.
An undoubted attraction during the cooler months of the year is the log burning fire in the lounge, to make those evenings which you choose to spend indoors a truly memorable experience.
Further details outdoors:
The patio measures 200 square metres, with lovely flower beds adjacent to the house. It's a real sun trap, so be sure to bring your sun tan lotion! At the pool there is a large seating area, giving you the opportunity to enjoy that glass of Italian wine whilst you keep an eye on the children.
The pool itself is 13.5 metres by 6 metres, with steps at the shallow end, an outside shower and very large gazebo with barbecue, adjacent to the pool area for those wanting the 'al fresco' experience. You'll see from the pictures, the size of the gazebo and outdoor dining area!
We have also added a further gazebo, with new flower beds this year, for those looking to find a 'quiet spot' adjacent to the small vineyard, for that moment of quiet reflection.

Enquire nowThe Puglia/Molise region
One of Italy's most beautiful & unspoilt regions, Puglia has rightly been called the 'breadbasket' of Italy and is renowned for its culture, food & hospitality. The 'Trulli' themselves are remarkable examples of limestone dwellings that have been built using the prehistoric technique, still in use in the southern region of Puglia, of drywall (mortarless) construction.
They are made of roughly worked limestone boulders collected from neighbouring fields & characteristically they feature pyramidal, domed or conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs. Cool in summer & warm in winter they are the perfect holiday home for exploring the surrounding area, visiting the coast or simply relaxing by the pool!
This site has plenty of suggestions regarding all manner of things to do and see during your stay in Puglia: http://www.initaly.com/regions/apulia/apulia.htm.
The Alberobello area
Puglia is one of Italy's most beautiful and unspoilt regions, with a wealth of cultural & artistic events, historical sites and fascinating old towns to visit. Traditional agriculture and fishing still flourish in this part of Italy which is rightly famous for its cuisine, olive oil and wine as well as an abundance of organic produce.
This is an excellent little site for a quick look at Puglia - http://www.initaly.com/regions/apulia/apulia.htm.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Bari or Brindisi: 50 km |
| Railway: | Alberobello or Locorotondo: 5 km |
From the UK, you can get to Alberobello via Ryanair or BA. Ryanair have daily flights from Stansted to both Bari and Brindisi - both these airports are no more than a one hour drive from our property.
The car journey itself is very straightforward, from either airport - a little 30 minute stint on the motorway, and another 30 minutes to get you to the Trullo. Our eldest daughter found it OK, so directions really shouldn't be a problem for anyone!
We invariably hire a car with Hertz, since they seem to have some form of discount when you book through the Ryanair web site - if you're going to travel regularly, then make sure you join the 'number 1 club', as this can save you time when you are trying to collect car keys!

Although in a quiet backwater, with its own vineyard and olive grove, Little Wood is actually only a few minutes drive from the beautiful old town of Locorotondo. In fact it's only a few a minutes from Alberobello too, yet when we were there in October, it seemed utterly peaceful and remote. The house itself is a complete reconstruction from the remains of several original trulli, but of course with all modern accoutrements. It's well kitted out with plenty of space for a family although the two smaller bedrooms are a bit tight and were a little musty presumably having been closed off for a few weeks. But this place is all about living outdoors and enjoying the extended summer that held out to the end of October for us, with a fabulous pool and barbeque area, and lots of space (and chairs and loungers) to find sun or shade as you wish. It's a luxuriously landscaped garden extending out to the vines and olives beyond. After that there's the beautiful local countryside, and the fascinating backstreets of the local towns to enjoy. You really don't have to go far if you don't feel like it, to see lots and enjoy the atmosphere and food of the region. Or the fabulous Primitivo wines... Response: Many thanks for your comments Michael - we will ensure that the property is opened well ahead of any future autumn guests arriving, thus addressing the point about having the trullo well aired. Best Regards, Gary |
