Our Trullo is named the Little Wood, and nestles in countryside between Alberobello, which is the centre of the Trullo world, and Locorotondo, another lovely little Italian town. Little Wood is ideally located for many of the tourist attractions in Puglia, such as Lecce, Martina Franca and Otranto - of course the Adriatic is just a 30 minute drive away.
The real beauty of our home is the tranquillity - set in countryside as it is, it is a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle we encounter in our working lives.
When you explore the land, you'll find the vineyard, masses of olive trees, and a mixture of additional trees - cherry, plum, passion fruit, walnut, fig and so on. If anyone in the party is particularly tired, then just use the hammock under the fir trees by the house, and listen to the breeze gently whistling through the firs!

The Trullo has been completely renovated, containing 3 double bedrooms, a kitchen/diner & lounge.
The main bedroom has an en suite, & there is a separate family bathroom. Central heating is provided throughout & all the appliances you need to make your holiday a carefree experience are there for your convenience – washing machine, dishwasher, oven & hob, plasma screen with Sky TV & a music centre.
An undoubted attraction during the cooler months of the year is the log burning fire in the lounge, to make those evenings which you choose to spend indoors a truly memorable experience.
|Further details outdoors|
The patio measures 200 square metres, with lovely flower beds adjacent to the house. It's a real sun trap, so be sure to bring your sun tan lotion! At the pool there is a large seating area, giving you the opportunity to enjoy that glass of Italian wine whilst you keep an eye on the children.
The pool itself is 13.5 metres by 6 metres, with steps at the shallow end, an outside shower and very large gazebo with barbecue, adjacent to the pool area for those wanting the 'al fresco' experience. You'll see from the pictures, the size of the gazebo and outdoor dining area!
We have also added a further gazebo, with new flower beds this year, for those looking to find a 'quiet spot' adjacent to the small vineyard, for that moment of quiet reflection.
Rental cycles can also be organised as can free diving lessons via a local, qualified instructor.
Smoking outside only please - please dispose of cigarette butts safely and tidily.
The Puglia region
One of Italy's most beautiful & unspoilt regions, Puglia has rightly been called the 'breadbasket' of Italy and is renowned for its culture, food & hospitality. The 'Trulli' themselves are remarkable examples of limestone dwellings that have been built using the prehistoric technique, still in use in the southern region of Puglia, of drywall (mortarless) construction.
They are made of roughly worked limestone boulders collected from neighbouring fields & characteristically they feature pyramidal, domed or conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs. Cool in summer & warm in winter they are the perfect holiday home for exploring the surrounding area, visiting the coast or simply relaxing by the pool!
This site has plenty of suggestions regarding all manner of things to do and see during your stay in Puglia: http://www.initaly.com/regions/apulia/apulia.htm.
Puglia is one of Italy's most beautiful and unspoilt regions, with a wealth of cultural & artistic events, historical sites and fascinating old towns to visit. Traditional agriculture and fishing still flourish in this part of Italy which is rightly famous for its cuisine, olive oil and wine as well as an abundance of organic produce.

"Luxury and Tranquility amid the Olive Goves"
Although in a quiet backwater, with its own vineyard and olive grove, Little Wood is actually only a few minutes drive from the beautiful old town of Locorotondo. In fact it's only a few a minutes from Alberobello too, yet when we were there in October, it seemed utterly peaceful and remote.
The house itself is a complete reconstruction from the remains of several original trulli, but of course with all modern accoutrements. It's well kitted out with plenty of space for a family although the two smaller bedrooms are a bit tight and were a little musty presumably having been closed off for a few weeks.
But this place is all about living outdoors and enjoying the extended summer that held out to the end of October for us, with a fabulous pool and barbeque area, and lots of space (and chairs and loungers) to find sun or shade as you wish. It's a luxuriously landscaped garden extending out to the vines and olives beyond. After that there's the beautiful local countryside, and the fascinating backstreets of the local towns to enjoy. You really don't have to go far if you don't feel like it, to see lots and enjoy the atmosphere and food of the region. Or the fabulous Primitivo wines...
Many thanks for your comments Michael - we will ensure that the property is opened well ahead of any future autumn guests arriving, thus addressing the point about having the trullo well aired.

"Wonderful Little Wood"
We spent two lovely weeks at Little Wood last August. The pool area was just lovely and includes a shower and nice loungers. We liked the fact that the main living area was open plan, it made the kitchen feel very spacious. The location feels very private, there is a property next door but they weren't around very much and when they were they wanted to keep plying us with figs!! The double bedrooms were nice, as were the bathrooms. The smaller room was good for the kids, our daughter enjoyed the cabin bed. Don't miss a visit to the old town part of Locorotono. We discovered it very late on having only previously driven through on one of many visits to Quinto Colori (good supermarket there and there's a games console downstairs for the kids). You get fantastic views of the surrounding area from old town and it's nice to wander around the alleyways looking at the whitewashed buildings.

"Ideally located in a beautiful setting, this trullo is perfect Puglia"
Having rented in Puglia for several years, as a family we were all in agreement that Little Wood offers something for the whole family. The pool and patio areas are stunning and spacious enough for teenagers to enjoy themselves in and for oldies to find a tranquil spot or vice-versa and the outdoor kitchen/bbq and eating area is a wonderful setting to enjoy the local cuisine. The trullo itself has been sympathetically restored to a high standard and the garden areas are absolutely beautiful and full of butterflies.Best outside seat has to be the hammock if you can reach it first ! All the local towns and places of interest are a short and easy drive away, however,we found it really difficult to leave Little Wood and spent most of our time in the pool or relaxing by it.Little Wood is an exceptional property and probably the best holiday home we have stayed in...and we were there for 3 weeks and we still did not want to leave !
