Home description

Puglia offers a complete contrast to the UK putting you in holiday mode from the moment of arrival. The climate is hot and sunny in summer and the bleached white Mediterranean landscape speaks of a different lifestyle where siestas and warm evenings are a way of life. Trulli Sulla Collina is set in 3 acres of olive , cherry and almond trees and its elevated position gives it far reaching countryside views of Val D’Itria. At night the lights of distant towns lend a fairy-light magic. Trulli Sulla Collina is privately situated, secluded but not isolated. Built at the end of a long private road there is no passing traffic or road noise and it is surprising how restful this break from the outside world can prove to be.

This is a charming lovingly restored character property, unique in style to this beautiful region for rent as a holiday home. Trulli Sulla Collina is a unique and beautifully presented property typical of the region. The trullo is beautifully appointed and offers spacious top quality accommodation. We have added many decorative/personal touches that make this feel like a home rather than a rented property. The warm creamy stone walls and floors throughout create a relaxing and cooling atmosphere. The trullo with its thick stone walls keeps cool in the summer, providing a perfect place for an afternoon siesta on those hot summer days.

The trullo has it's own private shaded alfresco dining area and patio overlooking olive and cherry trees and the landscaped garden with views across to Martina Franca.

At nightime Trullo Sulla Collina provides an escape from the world at home. With the balmy evenings, sit with a glass or two of wine and soak up the peace and quiet and watch in the distance the sparkling lights of the towns or take a trip up to the roof terrace and take in the magic of thousands of stars clearly visible in the unpolluted skies.

The fabulous 10x5m pool is a feature of the property that is set in an enclosed walled and landscaped area with stunning views across the Val D'Itria towards Martina Franca. The pool has been enclosed sympathetically to retain the character and views, but does provide a greater degree of security and safety for families with young children, with its stone walls and pretty iron fencing with lockable gate.

The grounds and pool are maintained to an extremely high standard.
Where there is no requirement for the adjoining villa as part of your booking and where there is no existing other booking in the villa we are happy to agree exclusive use of the property's grounds and pool to ensure your complete privacy. Please ask about this.

Trulli Sulla Collina is lovingly cared for by our excellent property management team of whom we are very proud. Our guests always comment positively about our friendly and responsive team. Our English Property Managers will meet you and ensure that you are supported with any questions in relation to the property during your stay. Our local cleaning ladies who pride themselves on their very high standards of cleaning and lastly our English gardener/pool man who regularly attends the pool/gardens throughout your stay.

We are happy to offer the property exclusively if there is no exisitng booking in the adjoining villa. Please ask about this.

If exclusive use is not a concern, we can reassure guests that the design of the trullo and villa accommodation ensures completely independent living. They are completely secluded and private of each other each, with their own aspect, private entrances, private secluded patios with shaded alfresco dining, individual wooden outdoor furniture etc They do not overlook each other and with stone walls 1metre thick there is no risk of noise. For families travelling together looking for my spacious accommodation with communal living on the same site the villa and trullo together provide fantastic accommodation. The Puglia/Molise region

Puglia is the home of the magical 'Trulli' and is acknowledged to be one of the few remaining 'undiscovered' parts of Italy. The trullis are unique to this region of Italy and fall under the protection of UNESCO. These historic character buildings are fascinating and provide a wonderful sanctuary from the summer heat with their thick stone walls and cooling stone floors. Alberobello the nearest town is only 8 minutes away and is a heritage centre featuring hundreds of trulli all clustered together. Exploring the narrow picturesque lanes along which they are all situated is a nice relaxing way to pass away the time. The stone walled country lanes leading out of town are dotted with these century old buildings, all of which nestle amongst olive trees and vineyards. Our trulli is situated amongst 3 acres of olive, almond and cherry grove and has been renovated to a very high standard with the focus on retaining all the original features, providing you with a beautiful, unique and memorable character holiday home.

Alberobello area

Trulli Sulla Collina is extremely well situated for exploring the southern half of Puglia. It is situated in a rural position, that said, it is only a 10 minute drive to the nearest town of Alberobello. The town of Alberobello is famous for its quirky architecture, which is made up of hundreds of trulli buildings; it is very picturesque. In common with many towns in this region there is a large paved central area in the creamy smooth light stone where families gather in the long warm evenings buying gelati (ice creams) and promenading. It is striking that the atmosphere is so family orientated with toddlers and children running around late in the evening and many local old folks meeting and chatting. There is no graffiti, drunkenness or gangs of youths and it feels very safe unlike many UK town centres in the evening, which for most are a no-go area. After a leisurely evening meal you can wander around the bustling town centre, looking at the open-air art sales sampling the wide range of ice creams and enjoy the warm evenings. The market in Alberobello is a favourite place to visit, held on a Thursday from 0830 to 1300. It is a really pleasing mix with something for everyone.

Nearby in the opposite direction lie the ancient walled cities of Martina Franca and Locorotondo. With baroque style architecture, stunning cathedrals, specialist shops and a plethora of cafes, bars and restaurants there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. In Martina Franca every third Sunday in the month from 0830 – 1230 there is an antiques market which is well worth a visit. Spread across several blocks of the town, it is a flea market where furniture, bric a brac and art are mixed with jewellery, new and old.

25 minutes drive away through some spectacular scenery is the Adriatic coastline and beaches. The Ionian coastline is an easy drive in the opposite direction taking around 50 minutes. More formal attractions nearby include the spectacular Castellana Caves, Zoo Safari near Fasano (a safari park and fun fair) and not forgetting the wine Cantina at Locorotondo, where you can sample and purchase locally produced wine. There are facilities in Alberobello for bike hire and there is also available an excellent golf course, horse riding and tennis all within easy distance.

The property is also situated on the doorstep of the Val D'Itria region, a protected rural area offering peaceful rolling countryside that is ideal for walking or cycling. We can recommend an excellent bike hire company, you can prebook before you arrive and they will deliver qualoty bikes to the door. (www.pugliainbici.com)

One of the delights of the region is the many cultural and religious festivals that are held throughout the year. These occur in most of the major towns and cities, usually throughout the spring and summer months. They are characterised by fabulous street illuminations and live open-air entertainment. Here you will find anything from formal classical, jazz or pop concerts in the local piazza to ad hoc street performances by roaming bands that appear to welcome any excuse to strike up a tune.

How to get there

Puglia is well served by a range of international and domestic flights operating into the two main local airports at Bari and Brindisi. There are many options for travel into the region.

From the South, there are very affordable direct flights into Bari and Brindisi from Stansted www.ryanair.com and Gatwick www.britishairways.com. From Heathrow alitalia offers flights via Milan with excellent connections into Bari. www.alitalia.com

From the North, there are very affordable flights from Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Edinburgh on Jet2 to Milan, Rome or Venice with good affordable daily connections on airone into Bari. www.flyairone.it.

Alternatively why not mix the holiday with a stopover in Rome or Venice. There are cheap internal daily flights operating from all the italian northern cities on Airone. Finally, another very viable route is via Naples. This driving route takes approximately three and a half hours door to door. The superstrada is surprisingly quiet and the roads are easy to negotiate. We can provide detailed directions for this option.

Once you have arrived, hiring a car is easy and really is the only practical way of exploring the region. All the major car hire companies are located at both airports and cars can be pre-booked directly over the Internet (both BA and Ryanair offer preferential rates with various car hire partners).

Guestbook

The property was stunning - really and absolutely. It was exceptionally comfortable - the mattresses especially - which is unusual for rental properties in our experience.
It was very well furnished - very much a home from home. We loved the personal touches with the CDs provided and the First Aid kit. The pool area felt fabulously luxurious and its surroundings were exceptionally clean (with the added bonus of fantastically unspoilt views). JN 2007

We were extremely impressed with our whole holiday experience right from the time of booking; the reassuring emails prior to arrival, the excellent property location instructions, the pre holiday inventory of what to expect. The villa was spacious, well equipped, comfortable and above all immaculately clean. The outdoor eating area and BBQ were very good, nice shade and ample outdoor furniture. VW 2007

What a stunning property! The location was superb, we loved the views and the secluded aspect. It is clear that the villa is maintained to a very high standard. The trulli has so much character and has been renovated with a real eye to detail. It was spacious and extremely well appointed. We loved all the personal touches that made it feel like a home. We also liked the fact that you had an English property manager, it gave us a greater degree of comfort should we have needed help in an area where English isn’t widely spoken. JL 2007
