Home description
Cascina 47 is a more than two hundred year old farmhouse. It was recently renovated to a high standard, emphasizing its old walls, vaulted ceilings and other original features, whilst incorporating all modern comforts. The farmhouse contains in total six large bedrooms, all with two single or a double bed, and four bathrooms containing spacious showers (one with a large bath) of modern Italian design. Furthermore there is a loft style living room of some 45 m² with fire place and adjacent a large terrace overlooking the vineyards with the Alps on the background. The entrance hall leads to a large kitchen (also with fire place) equipped to a high standard, and a separate study. The farmhouse and its 15 meter swimming pool are situated on a hill overlooking vineyards and wooded hills with stunning views towards the Alps and the more rugged scenery of the Alte Langhe. Total area is around 5,000 m². Walking distance One can reach the village on foot via a path that runs along the back of the property. San Donato boasts a church, a tabacchi (a small supermarket that also sells fresh bread) and a restaurant cum bar.

The North West Italy / Piedmont/Lake Maggiore region
Landscape This low mountainous area is very diverse. One can drive along one of the many roads and see gently sloping hills to one side and wild woods on the other. Even in the height of summer you will be able to enjoy the lush countryside that is set ablaze in colour from spring to autumn by wild (fruit) trees and flowers and not to forget the vineyards.
Climate In this hilly part of Italy a micro climate prevails not unlike that of the Mediterranean. The many vineyards at more than 500 metres, testify to this. Looking at a weather chart, the forecast for Genoa is more likely to be accurate than that for Turin and Milan.

Activities – What to do in the area
Food & Wine The Southern Piedmont is dotted with numerous small villages with castles, churches or convents that can be seen from afar. A number of stately homes open their doors and gardens during the summer months. Mango has a beautiful castle. Inside you will find a restaurant and the Enoteca Regionale for wine tasting. The villages of Barolo and Barbaresco - famous worldwide for their wines - are within a short driving distance. Not surprisingly in an area famous for its wines, good food is just as important and a stone throw away. ‘Foodies’ will find themselves in heaven; slow food did not originate for nothing in this part of the Piedmont. You will find numerous Michelin star, and family run restaurants to pizzerias within a fifteen minute drive. Different wine and food festivities are organised from Easter until early December. During the summer months the villages organise their own smaller fete. Not a week passes without one being held somewhere.
Walking, cycling, riding and far more The bureau of tourism has set out a number of local tours that can be done on foot, by (mountain) bike or on horse back, which will take you through beautiful countryside. Other outdoor activities from rafting to paragliding are also available.
Golf A total of seven 18 hole golf courses and a number of challenging 9 hole golf courses, within a radius of 50 km, should be able to satisfy the average golfer. For further information click on Golf courses
Art, music and theatre Particularly during the summer months cultural events are held all over Southern Piedmont.
Alba - Asti - Aqui Terme and many more Three totally different provincial towns, dating back to different eras are worth visiting for their architecture. Shopping here is also very good, though on a smaller scale than in the above mentioned cities. All famous Italian brands - some even have their own shops - can be found in these towns. The large Saturday market in Alba - famous for its white truffle - is also worth a visit. The smaller town of Neive has been promoted to “one of the hundred most beautiful villages of Italy”
Daytrips Turin - Milan - Genoa - Savona - The beach at the charming old town of Noli
In the Cascina you will find an updated list of all these events.
