BookThe North West Italy / Italian Riviera/Liguria region
The Ligurian region and, in particular, the Western Riviera offers a vast choice of activities to satisfy even the most demanding of visitors, from the casinos of Sanremo and Montecarlo, to the charm of ligurian seaside villages to excursions in nearby towns and historical sites.
Liguria is an Italian region of 1,614,841 inhabitants, situated in the north-west of the Italian peninsula and whose capital is the city of Genoa. The region is bathed from the Ligurian Sea to the south, to the west is bordered by France to the north Piedmont and Emilia Romagna and south-east of Tuscany.
The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, but not uniformly: it reflects the fact uneven morphology of its territory largely mountainous, open sea on a very hot compared to its relatively high latitude. Summer is moderately warm daytime temperatures usually exceed 30 ° C only 3/4 times in a whole month of July, but they are tempered by sea breezes.
Tourism is one of the most important economic activity for the region Liguria, mild climate ii landscapes known as Portofino, Cinque Terre, Porto Venere, diversification of tenders: the many possibilities and wine, the different types of landscape, attracting tourists from both the 'Italy and from abroad, both in summer and in winter thanks to the excellent climate in fact, as the majority of tourists takes place in the summer, where you can enjoy the many miles of beaches and bathing services.
Tourism in Liguria offers many cultural and impromptu (exhibitions, conferences, festivals and celebrations, and visiting villages and historical sites, without neglecting the Aquarium which is among the largest in Europe as well as the Centre town with its Caruggi charm to be discovered.
The Alassio area
Alassio is one of the most famous holiday resorts on the Western Ligurian Riviera.
It is in the province of Savona and it is a stretch of land squashed between the sea and the hills, with a splendid green bay opening onto the sea
The Albenga area
Albenga, Ventimiglia and I go with that is one of three Roman cities of western Liguria, has the best-preserved historic center of western Liguria. The old town retains its compact medieval construction in fact, the sole of the Roman center, with houses built and the famous towers. Located in the wider maritime plain of Liguria, in the middle of a wide bay with a sandy beach at the mouth of the River Centa, has six fractions (Bastia, Campochiesa, Leca, Lusignan, Salea, San Fedele) and an area of ??36.5 sq km . The second largest city of the Province of Savona after the capital, combines its role as an important market in fruit and vegetables and flowers and plants with his vocation to the beach tourism and historical-cultural. Albenga is Episcopalian (Diocese Albenga-Imperia), its patron saint is Saint Michael, celebrated on September 29, but the city is also devoted to Our Lady of Pontelungo, which he dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of the July 2.
Depart from the plain four valleys leading inland along the course of streams Lerrone, Arroscia, Pennavaire and Neva. The Lerrone, the westernmost, is in its initial section ordered fields and old villages well restored that frame the now famous golf courses (Garland). After Casanova, and the towns of worth and Vellego climb up to reach the Ginestro (677 m) from which you can get to see the promontory of Varigotti, distant as the crow flies fifty kilometers. From the pass you can go down the valley inland empire or even in Val Merula close to Stella. The basin is very suggestive Arroscia, which originates from Mount Frontè (2152 m), whose main center is Pieve di Teco, once a meeting point between the communities of Piedmont and Liguria for the exchange of products. Climbing the Val Pennavaire you reach the 1279 meters of the pass, meet and High Caprauna, the lake of glacial origin from which you depart the paths for the Monte Dubasso (1538 m). Going up the Neva, through Cisano and the castle of Conscente you get to Zuccarello, with its ancient arcades, still climbing, you reach the junction leading to Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena and then plateau of Bardineto, continuing along the Neva Valley (which was an ancient salt route, well defended by towers and castles) meet Erli and higher, including beech and chestnut trees, and after Cerisola Gazzo, the passage of S. Bernard, known to the source, which flows there. Here you can descend into Val Tanaro. For those who enjoy bird watching is interesting excursions along the mouth of Centa, the Arroscia and in the area of ??Villanova. Off between Albenga and Alassio, lies the Gallinara Island, so named by the Romans because once full of wild hens. In it are the remains of a Benedictine abbey that was rich and powerful in the Middle Ages. You can also see the cave where he took refuge S. Martin, bishop of Tours city of France in the fourth century to escape persecution of the Arians. In July 1998 he was placed on the seabed near the island the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

We are just over 65yrs and found the climb up the stairs to the studio a little steep but after the second day we would stop at the little shop/bar for a boost, wine & beer, and it became very pleasant. The view from the balcony was truly stunning and the studio had all we needed. We enjoyed visiting Alassio and also found the drive to Nice and back along the coast back to Alassio very easy and stopping at Monaco,Monte Carlo,Nice made the holiday that much more enjoyable. A car is a big plus. |

We've been at Moni e Mare with family (two 10 years old children) for 2 weeks. The apartment was very clean and really looks like on the pictures. There was an excellent view from the terrace, where we had our breakfasts right in front of the apartment. There is a brand new small beach right in front of the apartment house, which can be accessed safely with children from apartments. Also the beach is very safe with children, as it slowly get deeper, after a couple of meters the bottom of the see is sandy and in our strong opinion this is the best beach in Alassio area. We have been faced with a friendly hospitality and we can truly recommend Monti e Mare for families with children. |

Let me first start by saying we booked a self catering apartment on the site and it was beautiful with a stunning view. That aside if I had known that they allow dogs not only on the site but in the apartments then we certainly would not have booked here! My 2 weeks was not only spoiled by barking dogs every morning & night but always by the dogs hairs we found on our sofa beds in the apartment. That then apartment was not cleaned once in the 2 weeks we were there or that we had to ask for a change of towels & bedding after 7 days did not help the situation. On the Sunday evening that we arrived at the site, it was after 10pm as we had driven from Nice after a late flight out from Manchester. We found that the site shop and restaurant were closed and we did not have a drop of water between us. There was nothing whatsoever left in the apartment to cover for late arrivals IE tea, coffee, water which would have made a big difference to our first night. Do yourselves a favour and Don't use the sites beech as the prices are just a rip-off compared to the beeches along the coast, 8 Euro's for 2 soft drinks and 40 Euro's for a front beech deck chair. The sites restaurant does not compare good either charging 8 euro's for one beer, where we got 2 in the resort for 10. This all said, the location was simply stunning but I think a little management thinking needs to be done to cover the things we have written. Response: thank you for your review and i can assure you that we take all comments from our guests seriously. We provide a welcome package of various ligurian products (also wine!) but we didn't think about the water .Will do for next year! Regarding the beach and restaurant i agree with you and we are not renewing the concessions for next year.We want a beach and a restaurant with reasonable prices and good quality. Regarding the dogs ,did you mention this to us? Dogs are welcome only if they behave (not barking is included!) .If we would have known we would have told the owners that we must stop the barking or put the dogs in a kennel. Regarding the cleaning ,we will put an extra charge next year to cover the extra cleaning that is necessary when owners have dogs (thanks for the tip!) . Regarding the change of towel and linen that should be automatic after the first week ( i will inquire why you had to ask!) .For extra cleaning we could have provided the service at an extra cost. I am very happy you enjoyed the location and overall experience .Please come back and visit us and you will be able to see that we have listened to your "suggestions" and have made the necessary changes. Ciao Andrea Della Valle Owner |
