The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Turquoise coast is a stunning region of Turkey boasting beautiful beaches and numerous resorts. Some are very busy, others, like Akyaka, are more charming and traditional. The area contains many sites of historical importance and largely remains very Turkish.
The Akyaka area
Akyaka is a traditional turkish holiday resort, Completely unspoilt, with only recent interest from the more discerning holiday maker.
The village is famous throughout Turkey, not only for its natural beauty, but for its special architecture. The famous architect Nail Cakirhan won the 'Aga Han' award in 1986 to honour his special type of carved wooden houses. The village is strictly monitored to ensure it maintains its picture post card image , and the conservation areas are preserved.
The air in Akyaka is reported to be beneficial to those with health problems...which makes it extremely popular with Turkish holiday makers. The gulf of Gokova (Heavens plain) is also known for its cooling breezes in the hot summer months.Whilst normally serene and refreshingly calm out of season, during the months of July and August , the village develops a life of its own...resulting in a lively, but still relaxed, fun filled atmosphere...
Students from Mugla University descend to play guitars on the beach and BBQ in the forest.
Occasional turkish singing / dancing breaks out in the restaurants, where all are welcome (and encouraged) to participate!Akyaka is one of the most beautiful villages you can see on the Turquoise Coast. It 's delightful position at the gulf of the conservation area of the Gokova plains is bordered by the magnificent Sakartepe mountains.
Akyaka has a wide sandy beach, safe for children with umbrellas and sunbeds . This beach offers some lovely Bars and Restaurants, catering for all tastes. It is a fabulous place to sit and watch the sunset. There are many more restaurants in the village plus a local bakery, butchers, hairdressers and a bustling wed morning market. Several ATM's are available in the village.
For a slightly more sophisticated evening, why not indulge in one of the five fish restaurants on the Azmak river, A fresh menu of bream, bass, mullet and shell fish are available to be eaten on the edge of the cooling fast flowing river .Bordering the beach is the small harbour at the base of the River Azmak. Here local fishing boats provide Fish or Kofte (meatballs) snacks and Tea/ Soft drinks etc.
Several boats are available to hire. Fishing trips or day cruises or just a small boat trip up the river for breakfast or a beer.
At one side of the village is the fabulous cool woodland forest where locals BBQ in the shade. On the other side stretches the conservation land, wonderful for bird watching and walks. The second beach of Akyaka is called Cinar and is located a few bays further behind the forest. There is a small local cafe /bar and sunbeds/umbrellas are available for rent

Guestbook for Villa Manzara
Dear Amanda Sorry I have not emailed you before but life has been rather hectic since we got back. We had a fantastic holiday and thought your villa was lovely. We spent a lot of time on the balconies enjoying the view and one night saw a wild boar! .The information sheet you sent us was extremely useful and the restaurant recommendations were very welcome. We also enjoyed evening drinks at Apple Beach and the Anchor Bar! Additional tips for future guests - buy any duty free spirits at the airport and make sure you have £10 notes for visas. We went and saw Billy and hired a boat for a day to explore the coastline and enjoy swimming in the sea. We all enjoyed it so much we hired it for a second day. We thought a Visitors Book might be a good idea as guests could include any of their own recommendations. We picked up some maps and leaflets when we were out one day and I left them in the drawer as I thought they might be useful. I am so glad I found your villa on the internet. Not only was it a lovely place to stay20but, with you organising the transport and car hire, everything was so easy and relaxed. We very much appreciated the food and drink in the fridge when we arrived as it was very late. We have left you some gin and wine! With very best wishes Rosie and family
Just wanted to drop you a line, having returned yesterday from Akyaka, to say that we had a really wonderful stay at your villa. We couldn't believe how beautiful it was when we arrived, so spacious and tastefully decorated - it was perfect. We very much enjoyed its location, with its stunning views, cool breezes, and we simply loved our dips in the pool. We enjoyed Akyaka itself too, and spent much time on the beach and in the sea as well as in the restaurants which we felt were very reasonably priced - perhaps because we were paying T. Lira rather than Euros

Amanda & Grant Thank you; We had a great time in Akyaka: the villa was perfect - roomy, well equipped and luxuriously air-conditioned as well as having a lovely pool. Views excellent and the maid service was first-class. Your neighbours were friendly and helpful and on one night, calling Artis, when we locked ourselves out and Dr Mehmet even took us to the beach one evening! Your welcome pack was great. You are right in that Akyaka is quite exceptional and all the restaurants we went to were good too. Mev at Deniz sends his regards

My husband and I stayed in Villa Manzara last year whilst on honeymoon and we really couldn't recommend it highly enough. The villa is decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard throughout. The bed in the master bedroom is enormous and probably the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on! Akyaka is ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility. The local restaurants are superb and if you love fresh fish you should find yourself at home here. We love Akyaka and have already booked our second holiday at Villa Manzara next month - just beware of the neighbours very friendly cat that likes to vist. He is very keen on running through the villa doors late at night when you have come back from dinner and is quite difficult to catch especially after a few glasses of wine!!
