The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Akyaka (sometimes referred to as Gökova) is situated on the south-eastern coast (Gökova bay) of Turkey in the Mugla province. Akyaka possesses a relatively hot, dry climate with plenty of sunshine all year round apart from the winter months which experience significant rain and slightly less sun. Due to Akyaka's low elevation of 200M (656 feet) and mild wind speeds, no notable storms or tidal problems have been recorded and the area is generally dry and humid.
The days averagely contain high temperatures of 22°C (71°F) and cooler temperatures in the night averaging 10°C (50°F); for more accurate predictions pertaining to your trip check out a forecast. The conventional clemency during the summer holiday season makes this spot perfect for tourism either on the Akyaka's pristine beaches or its natural beauties such as the fertile lands of Gökova and the Azmak stream.
During summer and the peak tourist season (around July to September), the town is dazzled beneath beautiful sunshine and everlasting blue skies.
Be prepared for long, hot days with sunshine peaking at 14 hours a day in mid-summer and an average temperature of 33°C (91°F), so bring some cool clothes if you're considering visiting. Even the relaxed, cooler evenings reach about 19°C (66°F) most nights. There is little or no monthly rainfall in the area with around four days a month that see a small 22mm (0.8 inches) of rainfall each.
The average monthly highs for this period are as follows May 25°C, June 30°C, July 33°C, August 33°C, September 30°C, and the local beauty spots are perfect for summer activities such as snorkeling, diving or even trying the local fish delicacy. Surfing is also popular in Akyaka region along the local coasts supporting a few surfing schools for pro's, first timers and tourists alike. You can find winds at speeds of around 5-6 mph in summer sweeping in from the northwest.
Akyaka's winters are still predominantly warm with an average temperature of 12°C (53°F) from around November to January. These cooler periods offer an interest for mountain exploration and horse riding in the popular local mountain range including the Sakar Pass which is famous for its breathtaking views of the sea and distant landscapes.
The winter period starts in October with typical autumn highs of 18°C (64°F). The average amount of sunlight is reduced to around 10 hours a day with average daily temperatures of 12°C however they can drop fast and reach as low as 3°C by night so remember you: it's not a sun-cream scene all year around!
In addition to lower temperatures, there is also an increase in rainfall to roughly 10 days of rain per month which average 150mm (5.9 inches) of water. Rainfall reaches its highest level in mid winter with around 15 doused days per month and rainfall can measure 245mm (9.6mm inches) in December! No snow is expected yearly, even in the coldest months, although there is some chance of frost.
Villa Seyir is nestled in the peaceful hills just above the small resort town of Akyaka. It enjoys unparalleled views towards the beautiful bay of Gokova.
