About this location
The Turkish Aegean Coast region
The Turquiose Coast has a little something for every-one, with both quiet and lively resorts. Akyaka is in the national park and bay of Gokova, one of the quieter villages in the region. If you're looking for peace and quiet you can take a small drive to the neighbouring bay of Cinar bay which has become a popular spot for both tourists and Turkish residents. Further afield is the bay of Akbuk which offers traditional Turkish cuisine and gorgeous scenery and a chance to swim in the clear waters.
If you're looking for something a little more lively, buses and taxis are available to take you to Marmaris which is a 40 minute journey to some specatacular restaraunts and bars.
If it's history and architecture that interests you there are many excursions available from Akyaka some of which include Dalyan, Pamukkale, Heirapolis, Bodrum and Mugla.
For relaxation and a little taste of Turkish life there are mud baths and Turkish baths situated in Marmaris and Lake Koycegiz.
The wet season ends in March. Hotest periods are in July and August. May, June, September and October are warm and dry.
Akyaka is a charming and predominantly turkish village. There are strict conservation rules for the Sakartepe mountains which keeps Akyaka unspoilt.
Akyaka is famous for it's health beneficial air which has made it a popular destination for Turkish tourists in the summer months which transforms the quiet streets and restaurants in to a bubbly and lively place to be.
The village has everything you need from supermarkets, both commercial and family run, bakery, butchers, pharmacy, internet cafe, coffee shops, ATM's and barbers (which offer the traditional Turkish shave for men!).The town centre is two minutes walk from the villa however it is uphill!
There are numerous restaraunts with friendly waiters and excellent food. They are situated all over the village, however most restaraunts are further down by the vast sandy blue flag beach. During the day sun loungers are available on the beach and guests receive waiter service through-out the day. The beach is situated less than 10 minutes walk from the villa or 2 minutes by car. There is a large car park situated near the pier which charges 3 lira per day or street parking is sometimes available.
The pier offers fishing and boat trips through the season for roughly 20 lira for a full day of swimming and food included with some rather interesting entertainment!
The Azmak river divides the mountainous side of the village to the marsh side where you can take a stroll and watch the birds and wildlife. Small boat trips are available for the Azmak and it boasts some fantastic fish restaraunts which are indeed worth a visit for some fantastic fresh fish cuisine.
There are up and coming water sport activities such as Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing and diving which are reasonably priced and an excellent day out.
Every Wednesday the village offers a market where fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, local honey and cheeses and thousands of spices can be purchased but don't forget to haggle! If you miss the Akyaka market, Gokova has a larger market every Saturday.
Akyaka really is some-where where every-one can find something for their tastes whether it be walking, sports or just some R&R. A car is not an essential if you plan to stay in the village as there is local transport available, however if you wish to get out and about independently car hire is available.

"All you could ask for - a real home from home"
The owners and agent for this lovely house couldn't be more helpful. We have stayed in this house twice already, and will definitely book again. The house is extremely comfortable, clean, well equipped, and very well maintained. In a peaceful area, but very easy access to all amenities - beach, market and shops, plenty of restaurants and bars. Also near jetty for numerous boat trips. The local people are a delight, and very proud of their village. Local cuisine is of a very high standard. This is the ideal place for the perfect beach holiday. Very highly recommended!
