The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Akyaka is set in southwest Turkey at the end of the Golf of Gokova about 40 miles east of the Greek Island of Kos. This region of Turkey is rich in natural beauty and offers plenty of historical sites to visit. The summers are hot but with the accompaniment of our on-shore breeze, normally very comfortable.

Dalaman airport is just 1 hour away and for those who like holiday shopping, Marmaris is about half an hour by car. The more traditional Turkish city of Mugla is also only half an hour by car and there is a frequent bus service to both places.

Venturing further afield you can take a boat down the river at Daylan, maybe you will see its famous sea turtles and 5km sandy beach. For the archaeological lovers the most spectacular City of Ephesus is a day trip away.

Akyaka, unspoilt by development always feels like a secret not too many people know about. There are a number of small restaurants and shops in the village and the beach is sandy with shallow waters stretching for some way off the beach making it ideal for young children. There are no nightclubs here and the local laws forbid loud music late at night.

The Azmak River on the low edge of Akyaka, flowing through the trees and reed beds towards the Gulf of Gökova is like a natural aquarium. You can stroll along its banks or travel it by boat. The river's freshness, its crystal clear underwater vegetation, its fish, tortoises and bird life are all part of Akyaka's amazing beauty which will astound you, as will its famous restaurants.

"Simply a beautiful place to holiday"

We chose to stay in Akyaka primarily because of the proximity to the kitesurf beach at Gokova. We had no idea how stunning Akyaka itself would turn out to be. The village is very Turkish and very frie… More
