The Aegean Coast region
There is a regular minibus service called “dolmus” just outside the villa which takes 20 minutes to get to Altinkum, Didim and the Temple of Apollo.
Altinkum (Golden Sands) / Didim. In Altinkum you will find plenty of shops and restaurants, plus loads of night time entertainment including some great music bars, re-runs of favourite TV comedy shows and live ‘big screen’ football matches.
A new marina is being built and a golf course planned. There are boat trips to Bodrum and Greek Islands (Samos, Kos).
Didim is a large town adjacent to Altinkum offering all sorts of shopping opportunities and markets to explore. It is known around the world as the home of the Temple of Apollo.
There is a huge Aqua Park, which the kids will love!
Temple of Apollo: The ancient Temple of Apollo at Didyma 5 km north of Altinkum was the third largest structure of the ancient Greek world when built around 1000 BC. This is the site where the Greek god Zeus came down to earth to make love to the goddess Leto, who then gave birth to twins Artemis and Apollo. The ‘furious Medusa, an exquisite marble head adorns the steps at the entrance to the site. Bodrum, Turkey’s oldest tourist resort has many attractions and caters to many different types of visitor. It is popular with the yachting crowd who moor up in the large harbour and frequent the waterfront bars and restaurants. It is a great place to be young and fashionable, rivalling the Mediterranean hotspots of Ibiza in Spain and Mykonos in Greece. Bodrum also has the best range of shopping and dining in the Aegean with something good to suit every pocket.
The Castle of St Peter is one of the finest and most complete castles in Turkey, built by the crusading Knights of St John in 1408. The building alone, with its dungeon and towers, make it worth a visit but the castle is also home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology displaying unique collections of ancient artefacts. Places of Historical and Natural Interest:
Miletos: Ancient times philosophy centre 19 Km
Akköy: Village Vine, Old Greek Houses 15 Km
Ephesus;: Ancient Roman city 90 Km
Soke: Market Bazaar 50 Km

Tours leave from Akbuk and Altinkum
Kusadasi is probably Turkey’s most versatile resort with a huge selection of hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars, one of the largest marinas along the coast and a huge cruise port for passengers on the Aegean tour who disembark in the morning to visit Ephesus and get whisked away to their next port of call in Greece.
The natural beauty of Dilek Peninsula, the Meander delta, Bafa Lake and the 60km coast with hundred of coves are a bonus for land based travellers..
Maxi Tours offer a host of Daily Conducted Tours (www.maxitourdidim.com)
Pamukkale (Pamuk-kalay) means ‘cotton castle’ in Turkish and it is a very appropriate name. This huge natural travertine (a type of crystalline rock) fountain is one of Turkey’s most famous attractions and one of its most beautiful and spectacular landscapes. Sparkling white terraces of shallow limestone pools cling precariously to the hillside. From a distance they look like piles of raw cotton. Close up, the limestone is brilliant white and its edges glitter like diamonds. Relax in the thermal springs renowned for their therapy and visit the Roman Baths, theatre and ancient city of Hierapolis

Ephesus is the largest and most complete ancient city in the eastern Mediterranean, situated 19 km (12 miles) north east of Kusadasi. It is a must-see even if you are not into history. The exceptionally well-preserved buildings allow us to step back in time to life in Roman Asia Minor over 1500 years ago.
Tours: Thur/Sun Depart 08.30 a.m. Return 17.30 p.m Cost: £16 – £18 Includes Entrance, Tour Guide, Buffet Lunch Priene: The ancient harbor city Priene, now located at the foot of a spectacular cliff on Mount Mycale presents a breathtaking view of Soke lowland created by the Meander River.
Akbuk area
There is a large Aqua Park, fun for all the family in Didim approximately 15 klms from AKBUK. Buses (Dolmus) leave every 15 minutes from just outside the villa that go to Altinkum/Dimim and operate until after midnight during the summer months.
Fancy a drink or would like try the local cuisine? – Aydinham Restaurant Next Door, The ‘Castle Diner’, ‘Joker’s bar’, ‘Liberty Bar-open 24 hours on Akbuk beach Promenade’ and others are open ‘till late. The Liberty Bar normally has dance music every night during the holiday season.
There is a new Super Value Supermarket called "BIM" Lidl of Turkey with an excellent choice of food just 30 metres from villa across the private road through wrought Iron gate into the precinct put your hand through 8.00am –open till 22.00pm.
At the beach road turn left and go about 50 metres and there is a market (Ozkan's) on the left, at the corner of the junction. (The deposit-paid water bottles can also be exchanged here for about 3 lira.
At the beach road turn right and go about 100 metres and there is 'Agüller' market (with ramps). This is a much larger market and seems to sell everything from drawing pins to sides of lamb! (There are 2 cash machines here, one outside the market and another on the far side of it, next to the bus-shelter)
There are many other smaller shops to browse around and choose from, plus there is the new garage shop where you can also hire a car for a couple of days. We paid £27.50 per day for a 5 door hatch back in June 2008.
