The Aegean Coast region

The Aegean Coast with its long, warm summers and short, mild winters, boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in Turkey. In summer temperatures can reach into the 40s and with the cooling sea breezes offers the perfect holiday climate.

Whether you like popular holiday resorts, secluded beaches, idyllic fishing harbours or the remains of ancient civilizations, it offers something for everyone. Rich in scenic beauty, agricultural wealth and heartland of classical civilisations, many of the most famous legends from ancient Hellenic and Roman times can be traced to these shores. In this region where the countless events of mythology took place at almost every turn, one will counter the theatres, temples and agoras of ancient cities.

There are many places of interest in the region to suit every taste - historical sites, the most famous of which is the ancient city Ephesus, dating back almost 8000 years and under excavation. Beautiful Bafa Lake, a bird watchers paradise with many nesting sites for rare species, the mud baths of Dalyan, Turtle Beach, Pammukale, quaint winemaking villages and a host of other sights to see all within easy reach of Altinkum.

For retail therapy there is the cosmopolitan town of Bodrum with numerous shopping centres and arcades as well as an ancient castle and a large marina. Kusadasi is just one hour away and boasts one of the largest marinas in the region with luxury cruise liners mooring regularly. In Soke there is an outlet shopping arcade with restaurants and also on the road back from Soke there are many shopping outlets, these can be accessed by bus or by hiring a car.

Akbuk

Akbuk is a self-contained relaxed and tranquil resort on the western Aegean coast 20 minutes from the resort of Altinkum.

Set on a small bay with stunning blue and calm waters and backed by lush mountains, Akbuk is the perfect location for a relaxed holiday.

For the more active there are several activities available, horse riding, watersports, fishing trips, walking and bike riding. There are several restaurants, bars and cafes stretching along the seafront promenade, perfect for a quiet drink watching the sunset over the Aegean and for the more lively there are one or two nightclubs and hotels with cabaret or theme nights. The resort has several shops, supermarkets, ATM machines and tour agencies and there is a regular bus service to surrounding areas.

There is a weekly market offering a huge choice of goods, locally grown produce, gifts and souvenirs, leather goods, clothing and linens, ceramics and local crafts to name a few.

"Great holiday experience in a lovely family apartment"

We stayed in Magnolia Apartments for 2 weeks in the 2nd half of June.
It was our first experience with renting an apartment for a holiday stay as previously we booked hotels. This time we decided to be more on our own than rely on a hotel service, and that was really a right decision.
The apartment is in excellent condition with all the amenities available. The kitchen has all the utensils necessary for a normal day-to-day home living, and with our love of cooking it was all we needed. There is a satellite TV and more than 500 channels including major news ones (CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, TV5) and also movie and cartoon channels in English and French. The patio in front of the pool is very large (some 20-25 sqm, I guess) and we liked to relax there in the evening.
The management company people seem to know their job. They met us off the exit to the main road and showed our driver the way to the complex. I also called them once to help with the satellite TV connection. They came in 20-30 minutes after my call and fixed the problem.
Akbuk itself was also a much more satisfying experience than Antalya-Alanya region (which is overcrowded with tourists). It was especially good for our little one. The sea is shallow enough for small kids who cannot swim yet and the sandy beach makes the entry pretty safe. The sea was warm enough already in mid-June when we came. The local people are very friendly.
We really enjoyed the local market. It works every Friday in Akbuk and it is just 100 meters from the apartment - the market place is next to the bus station. Local produce (fruit and vegetables) is very cheap but fresh and delicious!
There are many restaurants along the beach, food is good and relatively inexpensive. There are also a lot of shops in Akbuk where you can buy food, water, etc. Kipa and Migros are within walking distance and they seem the best for food shopping.
We also liked the boat trip. There are many boats in the port that take tourists for a trip around the bay. We chose Botztepe and did not regret it. They really made very good cooking on board, and let our little son stand at the steering wheel which he enjoyed very much.
Mosquitos can be annoying in the evening, but we quickly solved this problem as we took fumigators with us (these can also be bought at either Kipa or Migros).
The neighbors in the homes near the complex are quiet: generally, it is mostly families with children. It is indeed a very quiet resort: ideal for vacationers with children! The apartment is nice and clean, and is very close to the beach (some 300 meters down the road to the sea). We really enjoyed our stay there!

My family and I had a brilliant holiday here. It was great for the little ones - we especially enjoyed the swimming pool and the beach.

Local restaurants were very friendly and welcoming, and the prices were very reasonable.
