The Aegean Coast region

From April to October, most places in Turkey have an ideal climate that is perfect for relaxing on sandy beaches or enjoying the tranquility of mountains and lakes. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees. The climate is mild even in winter and December has known to be 21 degrees for those wishing to enjoy an off peak break.

The Aegean coast of Turkey, from Marmaris in the south to the opening of the Dardanelles at Canakkale, offers spectacular natural and man-made wonders and an easy introduction to the fascinating culture of modern Turkey. To make it even better, western Turkey is remarkably inexpensive.

The Aegean coast is extremely renowned for its historical sites, particularly the connections with Classical writers such as Homer. You can visit Troy and Ephesus amongst many other sites of extreme historical significance. If history isn't your thing, simply sit on the beach and soak up the sun whilst looking out onto the azure skies or take the bus to Sirange for a wine tasting day.

Akbuk area

Akbuk is located between Bodrum and Didim. The apartment is 500 metres from a quiet beach down a slight incline. Sandy coves run the length of the promenade in Akbuk which is lined with trees. Promenade is 6kms long running past a small harbour from where the locals fish. This is ideal for holiday makers who enjoy walking or those who enjoy an evening stroll. In peak season 'Sunset tours' go from here right round the bay. From the beach looking north, you have beautiful views of green mountains that cradle the village. Akbuk is a place to stay to holiday makers who like quiet laid back holidays with the option to visit livelier Altinkum. Akbuk boasts the highest oxygen ratio and has the lowest humidity in Turkey. The local market is every friday and sells fresh produce.

Akbuk is approx 15-20 mins from Altinkum. There is a regular cheap bus service (Dolmus) to the main resort every 15 mins. There is also a taxi rank in the village. Last Dolmus leaves Altinkum at 1am. Altinkum has 3 main beaches with all the usual water sport facilities. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from or why not relax and try a traditional turkish bath at any of the local hotels. Well worth a visit are the stunning historical ruins of the Apollo Temple where you can walk round the site and soak up the history.

Local amenities: Fun fare for children, harbour, boat trips, jeep safari, taxis, dolmus bus service, bars, restaurants, car hire, weekly market every friday, mini markets, medical centre, hairdressers, tour companies.
