Enquire nowThe Aegean Coast region
Within the Akbuk and surrounding area there are many places of interest and activities for all tastes. For those interested in history as well as Ephesus(one of the wonders of the ancient world) you can also visit the Apollo Temple at Didim, Milletos and Priene (full details available in the folder in the villa). For the beach lovers there are water-sports in nearby Altinkum, You can enjoy boat trips and go snorkling around nearby bays and coves. There are ferries to Kos or Samos from Bodrum and sometimes Altinkum.
There are 2 water-parks in travelling distance - details available in the villa or the village. 30 minutes drive away there is a large outlet shopping centre to get all your genuine designer labels (Soke). The weekly market in Akbuk is wonderful on Fridays is excellent and seems to have anything you can think of - with many bargains and wonderful displays of fresh fruit, vegetables and other foods. A great place to practise your Turkish and even enjoy a cup of apple tea as you but your goods (dictionary available in the villa).
The Akbuk area
Akbuk is in a huge bay on the Aegean coast. It is surrounded by gently sloping mountains. The villa is at the base of the mountains with views of the hills and the sea from the roof terrace.
The vast expanse of pine forest and olive groves, ensure that there is an abundance of clean fresh air and cool breezes throughout the year. However the months of july and August can be very hot - as is turkey in general. Akbuk is said to have the highest oxygen ratio and lowest humidity of Turkey.
Akbuk is situated on the South West Aegean coast of Turkey between Bodrum and Didim. It is approximately 70km from Bodrum airport, 65km from Kudasi and just 18km from the resort of Altinkum/Didum.
Akbuk is not a mainstream tourist resort but it offers unspoilt charm and a feel of real Turkish living. The people are very friendly, and you can park just about anywhere! Akbuk bay extends approximately 8km in either direction. You will find many bays with golden sands just a 5 to 10 minute drive away. We like the small beach in Akbuk if you do not have a car. Swimming is really safe for children.
Akbuk is a delightful but rather sprawling village which has more than you first realise. It is a developing area but no serious construction work is allowed during the tourist season (May to October). Akbuk is designated as a tourism protected area with strict planning regulations to preserve the local infrastructure.
The village and beach is about a mile from the villa and takes about 20mins to walk.
There is a small local shop 5 minutes walk from the villa which is great for bread and anything you need to replace urgently. There are a number of excellent supermarkets in the village. There is a lovely fruit and veg stall during the summer and an excellent market every week (Fridays).
Akbuk has a all main facilities - including hairdressers, barbers, shoe shop, jewellers, and estate agents, post office, etc. There are a large number of excellent restaurants in the village all are open from Easter till November - with an increasing number open all year round.
There are Dolmus (local busses) every 15 minutes to and from Altinkum - last one returning at 1.00 in morning in the summer and about 10.00pm at Easter. Altinkum is where there is serious night-life (you won’t find a lot in Akbuk other than good places to eat, sometimes with some music and good quiz nights). There are also Dolmus’ (Milos – Akbuk- Bozbuk) that come up the hill hourly from the bus station (near the market) that will pick you up if they see you walking.
You can explore further a field and Dolmus and boats can get you most places if you do not hire a car. Historical places of interest include Apollo and Manos - Roman remains on outskirts of Altinkum. Even further a field is Ephasis but you will need to hire a car or go with a tour group (Agents in Altinkum arrange trips to lots of places). There are ferries to Bodrum from Altinkum - they take about 1½ hours we think which is slightly longer than by road but much more pleasant.
There are boats doing boat trips around the 3 bays from Akbuk leaving the quay at 10.30 and coming back around 5.00pm. The tends to be much more available in the peak season of July and August.
If you’re a keen angler, you’ll enjoy the fishing (there is one rod available in the villa - please look after it if you borrow it ). You can fish from almost anywhere along Akbuk coastline. You can buy fresh fish in the morning from Kooperatif by the harbour.
There is a busy working harbour in Akbuk. It’s nice just to sit a watch what’s going on. Sitting in one of the bar/restaurants on the front watching the harbour is one of our favourite pastimes.

Akbuk is located between Izmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) airport to the north and Bodrum Milas (BJV) airport to the south. There are flights from a variety of UK and European airports. Flight frequenct varies depending on season. Please investigate this yourselves.
The flight time to Turkey is approximately 4 hours from the UK. All the main search engines will bring up the main companies that fly to Turkey.
Alternatively you can hire a car form the Airport and we would be happy to recommend the hire company we use and send you more detailed instructions from the airport to the villa.
