The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Akbuk lies between Bodrum and Altinkum on the Aegean coast of Turkey and remains largely untouched by the tourist industry, being an area of natural beauty backed by pine covered mountains and forming a large horse-shoe bay.
It is belived to have one of the highest oxygen levels in Turkey, due to the pine mountains, with its' air considered to offer positive health benefits!
The town of Didim with its' banks, shopping centres and extensive Saturday market as well as the adjacent beach resort of Altinkum that offers three beaches, restaurants, night clubs and bars, is approx 30 minutes drive away and can be reached by private car or using the excellent dolmus bus service, that runs from Akbuk.
There are many places of interest for visitors to experience, from the ancient site of the Apollon Temple close to Didim, to the ancient city of Ephesus at Izmir, ancient ruins of Miletas, Priene and Didyma and many more worthy of a day trip that can be organised from several tour guides in Akbuk if required. A ferry to Kos runs from Altinkum. There is also an Aquapark and permanent funfair close to Altinkum.
Akbuk offers a really relaxing and sun-soaked holiday, with its' small clean beaches, traditional and more cosmopolitan restaurants, bars right by the sea and a pretty Marina from where boat trips can be taken around the lovely coastline and also to the Greek island of Kos. Explore Lake Baffa approx 20 mins drive along the mountain road out of Akbuk, especially the lakeside restaurant, well worth a visit.
Akbuk has grown over the past few years and now also offers the holiday maker, internet cafes', car hire and banking facilities, as well as three or four larger superrmarkets and several wonderful local bakeries from where to buy your freshly baked bread each morning!
There are also local butchers', a doctors surgery, chemists, petrol stattion, and taxi ranks. There is a small night market held by the sea front.on many evenings, and the traditional Turkish stores and shops stay open till late into the evening.
The Friday market is a 'must' only approx 10 minutes walk from the apartment, near to the bus station and selling everything from fruit and veg, spices and cheeses, shoes and clothing to hardware and garden plants!
You can hire a car by the day but should also try the local 'dolmus' running every 20 - 30 minutes or so, from the bus station nearby, along the coast and to Didim, for just a few lire!

"Comfortable , clean , well appointed apartment in elevated position."
This was a relaxing, well organised holiday for us , being our first in Turkey. The pre-organised pick up from the Airport was efficient and prompt and we were met on our arrival by a rep who showed us round and had done a pre-arranged grocery shop, another nice touch. This second floor apartment is situated on the outskirts of the town of Akbuk in an elevated position, giving excellent views down to the sea, (and the spectacular sunset) ,and is in comfortable walking distance from the beach and the town centre .The accommodation is first class, having a large balcony on which we had most of our meals and, if you are into cooking, a well appointed kitchen. The air conditioning is fully functioning and essential! The 2 bedrooms are spacious, pleasantly furnished and one has "en suite " facilities. The icing on the cake has to be the spotless swimming pool, set amongst the well maintained gardens. There are many sea front bars, most offering a range of interesting food. The boat trips are well worth a go, these can be organised from most of the bars or independently. We also visited Ephesus, about an hour and a half away and there are several other sites of antiquity.

"A Home from home in the Sun"
We have stayed at Mandalya on several occasions and are returning for our fifth visit in May 2014. This really is a lovely apartment set in tranquil landscaped gardens and we enjoyed nothing better than a gin and tonic on the large balcony at sundown overlooking Akbuk Bay and the usually quiet swimming pool. It is well situated for a lovely stroll down to all the restaurants and bars in Akbuk and is fitted out really comprehensively and beautifully clean and light. The owners also organise a meet and greet service and also transfers to and from the airport in Bodrum which took all te hassle out of getting there. Whilst there was lots to do and see and plenty of boat trips etc to be found we enjoyed nothing better than lazing on the sun terrace around the pool just enjoying the surroundings. If there was one tiny down side it was the 'call for prayers' from the mosque down the road but we soon got used to this and the early morning 'alarm call' gives you the option of turning over in bed or getting up to enjoy the wonderful warm sunny weather! We really did find it a wonderfully relaxing home from home in the sun.

"Fantastic apartment, beautiful view."
Have stayed in this lovely apartment twice. It is well equipped, on the top floor in a small friendly complex, with a fantastic view over the bay. The pool and grounds are lovely and it is set in quiet location, only a 15 minute walk from shops and restaurants set along the pretty seafront. Already booked to go back this summer.

"The most fantastic place to stay in Turkey"
We spent the most amazing two weeks here in July 2013. Everything was arranged for us before our departure by the owners including flight advice, a very helpful and detailed email full of handy tips about the apartment and the area of Akbuk, and a choice of transfers from Bodrum Airport. We opted for a private taxi arranged by the owners and we weren't disappointed, a quick speedy door to door service. We were met at the apartment and given the keys and shown around by a very helpful representative. The owners had also arranged for a welcome pack of groceries and fruit and veg of our choice to be delivered in time for our arrival. The apartment was spotless and clean and very well equipped with everything you could wish for, the owners encourage you to open every cupboard and drawer and look around, and you will find everything you need. It was late evening when we arrived, but what a surprise we had waiting for us the next morning.. The view from the main balcony (there are four!!!!!) was breathtaking, looking out with the hills of akbuk on your left to the bay and town down below. We loved a coffee there to start the day. There is a beautiful little pool at mandalaya and on many occasions we were the only ones there. There is all you could wish for in the pool area, including loungers, toys and inflatables for the kids and a box of holiday books. The main town of Akbuk with its selection of shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets are a leisurely 15 minute stroll down the hill. Top tip always get a taxi back up the hill, you can catch them from the rank just outside the main shopping street and last year all journeys in the local area had a flat fare of 10 tl or about 3 quid, well worth it.. Akbuk town is a delightful place with a lovely promenade and fantastic places to eat and drink, we tried most of them over the fortnight, but kept going back to pasa, the food and staff are fantastic and you must try their cocktails. There is a small travel agency in the town and they offer some amazing value for money excursions, we tried quite a few and they all include a taxi to pick you up and return you to the apartment, and a free lunch!!!!!!! Great days out include the healing spas and white hills of pammakule, the ruins of Ephesus, a boat trip to Kos and don't miss out on a mud bath and a trip to see the turtles at Dalyan!!! There are some great sandy beaches around the town but pop down to the Liberte bar and see Ozcur, he's quite a character and makes you very welcome. He has a small amount of loungers and umbrellas on the beach an he and his staff wait on you hand and foot as you catch some rays. Akbuk has a small bus station about a five min walk from Mandalya and from here you can catch the dolmus bus to explore on your own. It is an experience in itself and very cheap. If you prefer a more lively town with more bars and clubs then catch the dolmus to Altinkum, it's hustle and bustle is the very opposite of Akbuk but well worth a vist. We can't stress enough how good this place is and we had such a great time we are booked again this year, but don't just take our word for it, go see for yourself!!!!!!!!!!
