The Turkish Aegean Coast region

Turkey’s Aegean shores are amongst the loveliest landscapes in the world. The magnificent coastlines, lapped by the crystal clear water of the Aegean Sea, abounds in vast and pristine beaches surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pine woods. Once you are there, you will not want to leave a lifetime.......

The stunning Hill Side Apartments are set in a superb location in a pleasant natural environment on the sea front and surrounded by mountains and olive trees. This area of Turkey boasts an average of 300 sunny days per year where temperatures in the peak season can reach into the 40's Celsius, made tolerable by the calming gentle breeze from the sea and surrounding hills. It's ideal for the sun, sea and sand worshippers

Akbuk is one of the rising stars for the properties and holiday homes in the Aegean region. The fresh air, high oxygen levels, natural landscape and a relaxing atmosphere contribute to the popularity of Akbuk amongst retired people and families.

They say that the medical experts send people to this area for these reasons. Akbuk was a small fishing village and is very popular with locals. Lots of restaurants close by and several large stores to buy all your goods. Fresh bread every day and clean water can be delivered.

Akbuk is an unspoilt village with a working fishing harbour and a beach area and is subject to strict preservation orders and has been awarded a blue flag award. There are family run bars and restaurants overlooking the bay.

Akbuk is also a much loved region by people from the world over, it has the highest oxygen ratio and is rich in nature and sea. So it is highly recommended by doctors for people suffering from work stress and asthmatic diseases. With its nature as well as its history, Akbuk is attracting more and more tourists from all over the world.

It used to be a small town where all fishermen caught delicious Aegean Sea bass, but now it is a well-established tourism resort with holiday complexes as well as summer houses, villas, harbours and hotels. Holiday apartment is the most popular accommodation type in the local area.

This area is ideal for culture seekers, possessing some of the most spectacular and significant of Turkeys' archaeological sites with a rich cultural legacy from early Greek, Roman and Ottoman civilisations. The World Heritage site of Ephesus (where St. Paul was said to preach), containing numerous temples, a restored library and a huge amphitheatre, together with the nearby House of the Virgin Mary are only about an hours drive away.

Close to Ephaeus is the coastal town of Kusadasi with it’s deep sea harbour accommodating up to 700 cruise ships per year. The Temple of Apollo in Didim, the large amphitheatre at Miletus and Lake Bafa with its large breeding area for Flamingo’s and other wild birds are closer to the complex. Further afield are the stunning white limestone cliffs and hot springs at Pamukkale which can easily be visited in a day trip.

Altinkum (meaning ‘Golden Sands’) and its older attached sister Didim, is a busier, larger town and is only 20 minutes by car or bus (Dolmus). There you’ll find a vast sandy beach, lots of bars, restaurants, shops, hotels and nightclubs. ‘Sea-cat’ like ferries offer day trips to the nearby Greek islands of Kos and Samos during the summer months with journey times approximately one hour each way.

For the shoppers, a trip to Bodrum (50 mins by car) with its numerous boutiques, shops, yacht harbour, castle and museum is only an hours’ drive away or closer still is the Outlet Shopping Mall at Söke.

Akbuk is a small resort located in the centre of Turkeys favourite coastline, the south west Aegean and features fantastic beaches. It is located at the foot of gently sloping mountains and extends around a beautiful turquoise blue bay where the air is fresh and clean.

Turkish Baths are a must when visiting Turkey and a trip wouldn’t be complete without trying them out and maybe even enjoy a relaxing massage. There are various places to try this in and around Akbuk.

There are a variety of small shops in Akbuk. There is a local market every Friday, where you can buy freshly caught fish, vegetables, spices and clothing. There are also a couple of supermarkets providing a wider range of goods. And so many more you must explore………..

The popular town of Altinkum is just 8 miles away. Altinkum means “golden sand” and with its many beaches which gently shelve into the inviting turquoise blue sea, it reflects how this part of Turkey got its name. Beach life in Altinkum is excellent and its stretch of beach is famous for water sports. There is something for every-one whether you wish to relax or explore and when the sun goes down there is a wide variety of evening entertainment to suit all age groups.

The new Didim Marina project, completed in 2009 will be the largest on the coasts of Turkey, and provide visitors with an American style shopping centre, restaurants, supermarket, gym & fitness centre, cultural office, banks, swimming pool and children’s facilities as well as offering berthing for up to 620 yachts.

Just 7 miles from Akbuk is Didim where the ruins of the famous Temple of Apollo can be found. The Temple of Apollo is one of the most outstanding buildings of the ancient Greek World, not only in size, but also in architectural style. The area can be explored during the day and the ruins can be closely examined. Didim is situated on the west Aegean coast and is very close to the fertile Soke plain, famous for growing tobacco and cotton.

"Excellent Holiday"

This was exactly what we were looking for - great weather, great accommodation and great value.

The apartment was superb. It was clean and had everything in it you would find at home. It's location within the complex was one of the best as it was a very short walk to the pool but not close enough to be disturbed by poolside noise. The view from the balcony was also tremendous, overlooking the whole Atbuk bay.

The location of the complex was up a really steep hill but the complex offered a shuttle bus up and down it 3 tiimes a day, which was useful for the supermarket (might be worth thinking of hiring a car though if you want a bit more freedom of time). Atbuk harbour is a 15 min dolmus journey costing less that £1!! And the food there is really cheap and of excellent quality. Saying that, the food at the poolside bar is well worth staying local for and again of great value - plus you get to have one of Ken's (the barman) Special Cocktails....not for the faint hearted!!

I would recommend Akbuk, Hillside Apartments to anyone looking for a cheap chillout holiday with great weather, great food, great accommodation & a friendly environment.
