The Aegean Coast region

Akbuk, originally a small fishing village is very much an undiscovered gem on the Aegean coastline between the well known resorts of Bodrum and Kusadasi. It is primarily a resort frequented by local Turkish tourists and holidaymakers. However, being so close to the popular resort of Altinkum-Didim, which has led to many British tourists discovering Akbuk.
Akbuk is very peaceful and offers beautiful scenery within an idyllic, secluded bay surrounded by green mountains with large areas of protected pine tree forests. The entire bay's sea-front is lined with trees and offers a place to come and relax and enjoy the real Turkey.
Watching the sun set in Akbuk is fantastic whether it is done from the village with the locals or from one of our balconies, especially over a bottle of Turkish Red wine!!
Also in the centre of Akbuk, offers a number of bars and restaurants to suit your fancy, to just relax and or to chill out.
Every Friday, year-round, there is a large local market where you can buy some wonderfully fresh, cheap, fruits and vegetables as well as many other items. Also, there is another market just minutes from our villa which is open every Tuesday throughout the main holiday season.
Since Akbuk is a small fishing harbour, you of course can buy from the local fishermen, the day's catch, such as sea-bream, sea-bass, etc.

Akbuk area

Altinkum-Didim is 20 minutes or so from Akbuk. Altinkum is a beachlovers paradise, with very shallow waters making it very safe for young children. The town is very lively in the evening offering countless bars, restaurants, nightclubs, along the main seafront promenade. It can get quite noisy there after dark when the holiday spirit is in full swing.
Didim also offers all sorts of shopping opportunites with many modern shops and markets to explore.
The biggest and best place for a weekly shopping trip is in Didim called Gima. Also in Didim is the huge 'Temple of Apollo', a Turkish historic site, which is well worth a visit, now having been excavated and partially restored. It is probably the most impressive at sunset, setting off the scale of its impressive columns. The great snake-adorned head of Medusa, unfortunately, now cracked after falling to the ground, possibly from an earthquake several centuries ago, still does provide a wonderful photo opportunity.
There is also an Aqua Park just outside of Altinkum, with regular, cheap, local buses to and from.
There are numerous 'places of interest' within a couple of hours drive from the Villa. If you prefer the comfort of a coach tour, Altinkum companies offer day trips to some of these places.
Here are some of the marvellous places are listed below.
They have been categorised into 3 distinct groups as follows:
Places of Historical Interest (Ephesus, House Of the Virgin, Priene, Miletos and Alinda)
Places of Natural Interest (Dilek MilliParki near Kusadasi, Lake Bafa and Pamukale)
Other Resorts nearby Kusadasi and Bodrum, including Bodrum Castle.
