Home description
Built on three levels, Les Bougainvilliers has three bedrooms, all on the middle level. Light and bright, this is a very happy and comfortable holiday house. The house has two full baths, one with a tub and one with a large shower. Two separate toilets make "sharing a bath" much easier. On the top floor, under the huge beams, you will find the TV/VCR room stuffed with lots of great old films. The large living/dining room has an extendable table, antiques (a lovely grandfather clock is only one), a very comfortable sofa and chairs, a wonderful working fireplace and a piano.
Tastefully furnished with a combination of French antiques and modern pieces, the house is well maintained and continually updated. And, Babeth Teston, my local property manager is nearby should you have any questions.
Imagine your days at Les Bougainvilliers: short drives through gorgeous countryside to places such as Aix, Avignon, Arles, and St. Remy. The Luberon and all those lovely hilltop villages ~~ just 40 minutes away. Then, imagine yourself back home, seated in the shady courtyard and surrounded by geraniums, a book in one hand, a cool drink in the other. There's a brand new BBQ (and several excellent shops) to help with dinner plans, a local "cave" to help with wine choices. Want to call home to tell them all about it? Just pick up the phone by the piano and dial ~~ we have totally free long distance calls!
Come bedtime, you'll appreciate the very nice linens and towels.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Bouches-du-Rhone region
Provence is a magical destination any time of year. In Spring you'll see fields of bright poppies, you'll taste the first strawberries in the outdoor markets, and enjoy the warm sunshine and visit all the sights without the crowds. The area comes alive with sports from sailing to rock climbing ~~ everyone wants to be outdoors.
In Summer you'll appreciate the beaches at Marseille, Cassis, and Bandol ~~ all less than an hour from the house. Too far? Then enjoy the swimming pool and tennis courts in Saint Cannat ~~ 100 meters from the door. Tour the perched villages of the Luberon, decipher the history the Roman Empire, attend the village "fetes" on 13 and 14 July, dine outdoors ~~ every night! Aix is full of music, Arles boasts the International Photo Festival, and Avignon puts on the largest music/dance/drama festival in Provence. Come in Summer to photograph those unbelievable fields of sunflowers and lavander, and taste the lovely wines in a few of the hundreds of nearby wineries. All this in the warm, dry Summer in Provence.
If you are coming in the Autumn, get ready for colourful vineyards, wine festivals, log fires, and game on the menu. And the crowds have gone!
Winter visits to Provence are always an outstanding choice. Our part of Provence has short, mild, winters, free from tourists ~~ an excellent time to visit. Christmas fairs in Aix and Marseille offer santons, pottery, special sweets and festivities with French flair!
All year round you will enjoy the landscape, history, shopping, restaurants and cafes.
Aix En Provence / Saint Cannat area
Saint Cannat boasts many local festivals throughout the year, a fine museum, and shops. It's still a working village, you'll appreciate that when you see the lovely fields just across the street from Les Bougainvilliers.
How to get there
You may fly into Avignon (Fly-B) or Marseille (Easy Jet), or take the TGV to Aix-en-Provence.

Further details indoors: The kitchen has all the right appliances and tools for preparing your Provencal meals. There is a library space with novels, travel and art books, an enclosed courtyard full of flowering plants, a private, sunny, roof top terrace, a stone vaulted storage room and convenient parking. A huge skylite in the roof brings sunshine into the entire house through the atrium. Double paned glass and excellent central heat keep the house very warm in winter -- the thick stone walls keep it cool all summer. All year long the warm afternoon sun floods the living room, rooftop terrace, and farmland across the street.
Further details outdoors: The village of Saint Cannat has 3 well-maintained tennis courts and a large swimming pool, both in the park. There is a very small charge for using these excellent facilities.
While Les Bougainvilliers does not have a garden, it does have a nice courtyard with flowering plants and a rooftop terrace ~~ sun or shade, you make the choice.
Parking is never difficult. Often there is a spot right out front of the house; sometimes you will park in the next street, but never far away.
Conditions
"Parfait!" What a beautiful, welcoming home! My first trip to Provence and I am in love ~~ the flowers, the "vin", the people, the architecture, the vistas of sun-soaked villages clingng to cliffs, crimson poppies springing up under knarled, carefully pruned grape vines, fields of mustard blanketing the country-side. It has truly been one of the best trips I've taken. Thank you for letting your lovely home be our "base camp" for such an adventure! Lisbeth Cherny Largo, FL
An excellent way to avoid tht worst of the English winter is to stay in this splendid (or "cool" as my grandson put it) house in Saint Cannat. We made many visits to places old and new, but always enjoyed returning to what we came to regard as home. Babeth was most attentive to our occasional needs and was a reassuring presence in the background. We shall miss many things -- the weather, morning bread and croissants, a welcoming village and the many new friends we made. We hope to be back someday. Peter and Joan WILEMAN Poole, UK
With respect to the enthusiastic comments of earlier residents on the pleasure of meeting Cynthia and Babeth, the comfort of the villa, classic Provencial ambiance of St. Cannat, splendid pizza in the square, elegant dining at Le Mas de Fauchon, and the nearby attractions, including Aix, Arles, and especially the commentary at Nostradamus's place in Salon, we are in complete agreement.
Thank you for a wonderful week, "et a la prochaine".
