The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Bouches-du-Rhone region

Bouches-du-Rhône is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Provence. It lost part of its territory in 1793, when the Vaucluse department was created.

Its capital city Marseille is rich in many cultures with a strong mediterranean influence. The history of the area is closely linked to that of Provence. Marseille has been an important harbor since before Julius Caesar's conquest of Gaul. It is surrounded by the departments of Gard to the west, the higher plains and rocky hills of the Luberon Vaucluse to the north, and the rising green hills and mountains of the Var to the east, and by the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

The beaches stretching west of here on the 'Cote bleue' are mainly sandy interspaced with rocky inlets and stunning cliffs. East the famous 'Calanques' provide lagoon like havens some accessible only by boat and others by the most stunning clifftop walks. The pretty villages and towns that line the coast here offer the most pleasant promenades and seafronts and you will want to spend all day and evening in one of the many cafés, bars or restaurants that entice you with the sweet smelling bouillabaisse or the ice cold pastis served on the terraces.

Inland the villages are overflowing with roman and gaulish history with ruins, fountains, roman baths and monuments galore. The most famous of painters such as Paul Cezanne spent many years here, in love with the pinkish light that bathes everything with warmth, from the Mount Saint Victoire to the perched villages further north.

Aix En Provence area

Often called City of Art, City of Water, Aix en Provence attracts many tourists from all around the world. Aix boasts a fantastic climate, set in a valley between the Luberon Mountains to the north, the green valleys of the Var and Marseille and the Mediterranean beaches to the south. Loved and painted by Paul Cezanne, many a warm evening can be spent dining on one of the terraces or numerous restaurants lined up on the cobbled streets.

The closeby Mount Saint Victoire provides a naturally outstanding area of beauty, with many hikes, fields and plains to be discovered, natural sources and water holes tempt hot feet and laughing children.

How to get there

Half an hour from Marseille airport, Budget airlines Easy Jet and Ryan air.

High speed trains into Aix en Provence TGV station at only 20 minutes.

Local bus services from Marseille to Aix en Provence and from Aix en Provence to Jouques.

Minimum rental period is one week. Rentals run from Saturday 4 - 8pm to Saturday 10am.

To reserve you need to send 25% of the total amount. Balance payable 30 days before the beginning of your stay.

Included in the rates: Bed linen, tea towels and bath towels are provided.
Electricity/Air conditioning: 200kw per week included. Above this limit there is a charge of 0.16€/kwh.

The house is for a maximum of 6 adults and 4 children.
