The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
Southwest France isnt just famous for its food and wine. Its turbulent medieval history spurred the development of dozens of planned, fortified towns known as bastides. Even today, these are remarkable for the aesthetic appeal and fine design. Southwest France also has many impressive fortified chateaux.
There are more prehistoric decorated caves in Southwest France than anywhere else in the world, over a hundred of them, mostly concentrated in the Vezere and Lot Valleys. The extraordinary paintings of horses and reindeer, buffalo, bison and mammoth found in these caves date from between 35,000 and 10.000 BC.
There are lots more, but it is probably more fun for you to discover for yourself the caves, wine tasting, canoeing, etc.
South east of the Dordogne lies the Lot department, a warm, distinctively southern region. To the west of Cahors lies the agricultural and fruit rich Lot et Garonne department.
Bordeaux/Archachon famous for the sand dunes 1.5 hrs motorway drive to the west.
Pyrenees 2 hrs drive.
Aiguillon area
Aiguillon is 5 mins drive downhill from the villa with it river beach, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Clairac is 10 mins drive and again has river beach, children's attractions/museums, restaurants, etc.
Buzet is 10 mins drive wine tasting, restaurants, etc. River, boat hire and Chateau also.
Damazan is 10 mins drive lake and beach.
The River Lot and Garron meet at Aiguillon and therefore there is good fishing.
Golf 20 mins drive. Thermes/massage and treatments 20 mins at Casteljaloux. This is an experience not to be missed!
