The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The main industry is wine production here in the Minervois, so for anyone who enjoys wine, the area is a must, with producers selling directly. The second main industry is tourism, so there's lots to do, sight seeing, painting, walking, boating, cycling, kayaking..........and much, much more

Aigues Vives

The gite is situated in a quiet, picturesque hamlet, with very little traffic. Boules can be played in the village square, next to the church, from where you can gaze out over endless vineyards, below bright blue skies, beyond the little vineyard chapel and down to the visible Pyrenees.

Parking is convenient, in the square, a 1 minute walk through the tiny streets to the gite, where you can relax in the sun on the terrace.

The hamlet has a mix of French and British residents, with regular visitors from other European and American countries. Bread shop, wine "cave", small supermarket, butcher and post office are situated about a mile away in Aigues-Vives, where there is also a bar and a restaurant.

Beaches are about 30 minutes away, though a man made lake and beach is located about 10 minutes away, river swimming is about 5 minutes away.

"Wonderful and relaxing holiday experience in this lovely Gite"

The Gite is a very clean , comfortable , character house full of charm and has a great feeling of history ( it dates back centuries ) combined with excellent décor and all the modern conveniences you would expect which blend together to give the house it's unique character.
It is set in a Beautiful and quiet small historical village surrounded by countryside and vineyards but in the area and only a few minutes away drive are supermarkets, some superb restaurants , local markets etc and of course Narbonne and the coast is only 40 minutes. The Gite contains maps and brochures of many of the sites and things to do in the area which we found very useful to plan our days and a fine selection of books and music for the days when sitting on the terrace was the most we wanted to do . The locals in the village including the Gite owners are very friendly and knowledgable about the area and were always happy to recommend destinations to visit be it a walk and meal along the Canal du Midi , the location and time of one of the local markets or a visit to one of the numerous Cathar Castles or Roman sites that for History buffs like us were a must to visit.
The Gite and the area were a wonderful and relaxing holiday experience which we would definitely repeat and would heartily recommend to anyone be they a couple , group of adults or a family , we will be staying here again.

"A perfect location in reach of beautiful towns like Carcassonne, and the golden sands of the Mediterranean."

The Gite is very comfortable (5 persons in our group) and oozes character. It is well maintained, and tastefully decorated in the French style. Situated within a quiet and stunning Hamlet in a beautiful area of the wine region, readers may know of the area through the writings of Kate Mosse (Labyrinth / Sepulchre). Carcassonne is a must visit place for those History buffs, and will not disappoint. There are excellent restaurants around the area which include an 'English owned' restaurant 5 miles away. Thirty minutes drive will reach the Mediterranean coast and its golden sand with spacious beaches and water sport facilities. I would recommend the 'Midi' canal route with fine eating establishments and canal cruising. We had a marvellous stay at this Gite, and would recommend the Location / Region. Plenty to see and do for couples or families.
