Gite du PinPerdu
from £46 /night help
Gite | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
A delightful first floor split level flat constructed within a 16th Century Barn. This new project was completed in 2013, and is over 80 square meters in floor area. Comfortably furnished and well appointed with a kitchenette, eating, sitting and sleeping areas together with a good shower room with loo and basin. Outside there is ample parking in the courtyard; a private patio area incorporating a barbeque, dinning area and room to chill or sunbathe. Whilst this is an ideal place for couples to enjoy some peace and quiet, a cot and high chair could be available for a baby. Located in truly rural France, the Charente is a marvel of grapes, corn, maize and of course the Sunflowers (in season!). We are very well placed for an exploring holiday; whether by car, bicycle, or on foot. (You could also hire a boat or a canoe and patrol the Charente River) . Fairly evenly distanced from the delights of historic Angouleme, and Cognac. There is a stunning Roman Amphitheatre just outside one of our two close by Towns, and a wealth of other places to visit. Being France, there is always somewhere good to eat and drink nearby and should you wish for the seaside, Royan's legendary beaches are but an hour away. We are lucky to have Lakeside sunbathing and swimming in the two "Plan d'Eau" (enhanced lakes) with sandy shores and water sports - both short drives away. The Golf Course at Cognac is the closest. People also come to the Charente to paint and even star gaze at the clear summer night sky!

The Poitou-Charentes region
The Charente is the heart of grape growing country for Cognac! The beautiful countryside meets beautiful BIG sky's; and they are beautiful by night and by day. Peaceful rural farmlands filled with grapes, corn, maize and Sunflowers(in season) give such tranquility but still only short distances from the major attractions of Angouleme and Cognac. From ancient history to the famous annual Jazz & Blues Festival, to Vintage motor Rallying ; these cities have a lot to offer the explorer. Fishing or boating on the Charente River; golf, painting, walking, cycling, water sports in the lakes of Plan d'Eau; these are but few of the many attractions to the area. Each weekend in the Summer hundreds of villages hold Brocantes, (antique Fairs), Vide Greniers (Car boot Sales) and many similar and mixed events.
Within greater Poitou-Charente the diversity of activities and opportunities is incredible; in the extreme north is Futurscope the famous Theme park; to the west the coast from La Rochelle to the Gironde at Royan, and the lovely Islands Ile d'Orleron, Ile de Re; to the East is Limousin, and to the South the Aquitaine and it's capital Bordeaux. We are blessed with many of Frances beautiful and famous Chateaux and indeed Castles and ruins going back to Roman times. The Gallo-Roman Amphitheatre at Rouillac is a must for everyone as the shere concept intrigues more than just lovers of ancient sites!
