The Costa Calida/Murcia region
Costa Calida (warm coast) is a beautiful unspoilt part of Spain, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Still very typically Spanish, this area was inhabited by the Romans and Moors and is steeped in history. Located near the Murcia / Andalucia border it is ideally located for visiting the regional Roman capital of Cartagena, founded by the Carthaginians in the 3rd century, or the Moorish castle in Lorca.
Bathed by the warm Mediterranean sea, it is the perfect place for water sports like scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing etc and the surrounding hills and mountains make a great place for cycling or walking. If you are looking for beaches, you are spoilt for choice, with the beautiful sandy beaches of Aguilas or Calabadina and the numerous sandy coves along the coastal road.
Aguilas / Calabardinda area
Aguilas is a very Spanish town, with the castle of San Juan de Aguilas watching over the town from the headland. Having a drink and watching the world go by in the main square (Plaza de Espana) is a favourite Spanish pastime.There are plenty of Restaurants, bars and of course the famous Mardi Gras Fiesta that goes on for a week. Aguilas marina has over 1000 boats and lots of fresh fish!
Nearby golf courses are in San Juan , Desert Springs and Mojacar, or there are great Aqua Parcs in Vera and Murcia. The new Aquilas Plaza shopping centre is open 7 days a week or there are over 200 shops in the Nueva Condamina shopping centre in Murcia.
How to get there
Budget Airlines, Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 etc all fly into Murcia and numerous car hire companies operate from the airport to make your journey hassle free.
