'Finca' (Spanish word for country house) Los Palmitos is located in conservation area, nature park 'Cabo de Gata-Nijar', yet close to civilisation of Almeria city (50 km), Carboneras town (10 km) and Agua Amarga village (2.5 km) with one of the top 20 beaches in Europe, according to Sunday Times. There are about 5 golf courses nearby, lots of hiking routes, small and big picturesque beaches, wildlife that includes owls, chameleons, lizards...
The climate is unique for Europe, with over 240 sunny days a year, never cold in winter (January suntan is the best!) yet not as hot in summer as, say, Sevilla, Cordoba, or Granada. Perfect place to do nothing or to drive around to see the only semi-desert in Europe.
The house and all the facilities are situated on one level and are wheelchair friendly.

Los Palmitos is a new house with its own swimming pool. Built 7 years ago in traditional Andalusian style yet with mordern materials as much 'eco-friendly' as possible. Kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher, there is a breakfast bar with view to the swimming pool and the valley behind it. The house has underfloor heating and a fire log (winter nights in the desert might be as cool as 12 deg C! There is satellite TV (State European Channels only), DVD player, a lot of English language DVD and Video movies. For panoramic photo see villalospalmitos.com
|Further details outdoors|
Swimming pool is heated (a little bit, just 2 or 3 additional deg) by solar panels, all yours to enjoy 24 hours, it has a small children's pool built in. Jacuzzi is heated up to 35 deg C) Barbecue area has a sea view, nice shade in the middle of the day and electric lights for night time. You can have breakfasts, drinks and dinners on the terrace or on the roof. You can walk around for miles or just wander around the plot.
The English speaking owner lives nearby (about 300 meters) and would be happy to help.
About this location
The Andalucia region
Cabo de Gata is a coastal area near Almeria with numerous little bays, caves, and secluded beaches (fine description of it in 'The Queen of the South' by Reverte), used to be a popular venue for pirats and smuggles, now favoured by artistic circles, yahtsmen, divers, hikers, lovers of nature. Perfect climate for those tired of rain and sun deficiency (over 240 sunny days a year). Lots of small, very often, solitary beaches, many accesible by car (you park on the beach!), some by foot only, and almost all of them by mountain byke.
Almeria is the capital of the province of Almeria in the South-East of Spain. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, it is an important Mediterranean resort. Almeria has one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich coasts of the Mediterranean and has lots of wonderful beaches that make it one of Spain's natural jewels. One of the most attractive places to visit in Almeria is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, which is the ideal place for those who are interested in nature. Here you will find solitary corners accessible only by sea and wonderful beaches and coves.
'Little Hollywood' (where a lot of cowboy movies were shot), 'Cuevas de Sorbas' (caves and nature reserve), hot spring spa, mountain range of Alpujarra (leading to Sierra Nevada), local wine producers and olive oil mills, all these places are only about 1 hour drive away.

"Desert paradise, quiet and tranquil break with nearby beautiful beaches"

''Rural but not isolated and a short drive to the lovely seaside village of Agua Amarga, (30-40 min walk for the more athletic). The house has lovely views over a valley to hills. We bbq at the mirador often, swam in the pool every day and breakfasted on the terrace. Anna the owner is on hand to help with your every whim. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer person. Planning to go again asap. Can't wait.
Thanks a lot, very happy to know that you have had a good chill out!

"Very nice house in great location"
The property is as described. A partly enclosed area in front was great for wind shelter and sitting outside for breakfast in the sun. The pool, though a bit chilly in early April, was great for cooling down on the warmer days. Very young children would need careful supervision outside as property is bordered by fairly steep slopes, but please don't put up fencing! Easy 20-30min walk to Agua Amarga, and excellent walking along coastal path for several hours. Very comfortable indoors. Yes, internet is a bit intermittent but I could stay at home if I wanted internet all the time! Anna was very helpful and quickly sorted things out on the couple of occasions that something went wrong. Many restaurants not open midweek at this time of year, but very good supermarket in Carboneras allowed us some good cooking.
Thank you very much for taking time to write a review, I am very happy you liked it. I take Internet issue in the account and perhaps will change the present provider to Movistar (they started to work in our remote area this year). Hope to see you again

The unique and beautiful corner of Spain, where I went this winter with my friends, impressed me not only by its nature, warm sun, subtle sea, but also with villa, where we stayed at the first half of January. Big house with private territory is situated in the national park Cabo de Gata.
Villa is fully furnished, all beds are set, which is quite rare for Spain. Kitchen has all necessary equipment.
Every morning we had breakfast at the terrace, watching the sunrise. We cooked seafood, fish or BBQ for our dinner, admiring beautiful view to Rambla and sea. And in the evenings we would get together in the living room in front of living fireplace, playing games or reading books or browsing Internet (villa has Wi-Fi access) or watching TV with a cocktail.
Wonderful house and location! Our vacations were unforgettable. We are definitely coming back. Thank you!
Thank you very much for your opinion, I am happy you liked our corner of Spain and hope to see you and your friends again, you must see it in Spring for Semana Santa and in summer to explore all the secret beaches of Almeria, Cabo de Gata

"Poorly Maintained Holiday Nightmare"
The photos look nice but the property is poorly maintained to the extent that it poses a serious risk to the lives of those unfortunate enough to stay there. The whirlpool / hot tub was 'fixed' during our stay but a missing filter cover almost drowned my son and left him with a 20cm diameter bruise on his chest and abdomen after the suction pulled him in and held him on the bottom. Heated pool was not heated. The drains smell and we even had no water on 2 separate occasions - during the first week when it was on it wasn't hot. There is no wi-fi to speak of and the owner only provided a Vodaphone dongle after we had been there for 3 days and when it worked this only provided a maximum of 1Kbps making it pretty much useless - ie 30 minutes to load the Google home page! The Satellite TV has next to no channels available - less than you would get on standard UK terrestial TV via a freeview digi-box. I could go on but whatever you do don't believe the advert - it's not an accurate description of what you will get. The owner was aggressive when the short comings were pointed out to her and refused to resolve the issues. I would strenuously advise against renting this property. A definite case of BUYER BEWARE.
Thank you for your review. Really sorry about your son fall, had you mentioned it I would suggest to go immediately to the nearest Health Centre. The TV settings had been checked after your complaint, and state channels for every European country are easily to be found. Vodafone 'dongle' has been checked again and it does work with a good laptop, this option is the only way here to use Internet. We have been trying our best to deal with your queries, as you would remember, the electrician was called immediately after Jacuzzi motor failure and it was repaired as soon as he was able to get the required part. Anyway, it was a pleasure to see you all splashing in the swimming pool and enjoying yourself while the sun was shining. Usually our guests have nothing but praise and we are just sorry that your stay was not completely enjoyable despite our polite attempts to rectify any problems.
