About this location
The Ionian Islands region
The island of Corfu is located just off the West coast of Greece. Corfu enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate along with excellent beaches making it a popular destination for holiday makers. Corfu is very green compared to other Greek islands: hot and dry summers along with winter rain creates lush vegetation which is dominated by over 2 million olive trees. These olive trees on Corfu are the main cultivation, although Corfu's tourism now provides the most income.
Kendroma: is typical of the small villages that are to be found along the north east coast of Corfu with its highly traditional village cafeneion - only locals to be seen sitting outside. But, most of the village remains hidden from the sight of those passing through. Cross the small paved square with its fountain donated by a generous inhabitant, and you come to the concealed cobbled alleys of the old village, dropping steeply downhill, lined with solid stone houses. Simple shopping needs can be met at the cafeneion, and the beach and tavernas of Agni are nearby.
The idyllic bay of Agni is a short walk through the olive groves. There is one path down, or you can walk via the road. It takes about 10 mins to walk down. Walking back up though is a different matter! - probably about 20 minutes, including the couple of short rests you may require. The path and road are not very well lit at night so a torch is recommended. Below the villa is St Arsenius Bay - a tiny bay of a startling shade of blue, with amazing rock formations showing the unbelievable force of Nature - rock twisted as if it were plasticine. Here in this fabulous setting - best visited by boat - is a tiny chapel. This bay was written about in a very poetic way by Lawrence Durrell.
