About this location
The Ionian Islands region
Among the 3000 inhabited islands of Greece, there is a small group of seven, known as the Eptanissa or Ionian Islands, located just off the western mainland seaboard.
Captivating landscapes of rugged mountains, green hills and the ever present turquoise warm shallow waters of the Ionian sea best sum up the Ionian Islands.
Over the centuries these islands have developed their own culture and identity, partly through their periodic occupation by foreign powers such as the Venetians, the Turks and the British.
Each Island is unique unto itself, varying not only from the rest of Greece but from it's neighbours.

Agios Georgios South
The 'Emerald Island' of Corfu, known to the Greeks as Kerkyra, homes well watered and beautiful lush green hillsides where you will find an array of colourful flowers and vast stretches of olive groves and vinyards.
Sunny days, cool night breezes, friendly locals and fascinating history are just some of the memories that you will take home with you.
Steeped in history both the Venetians and the British have occupied Corfu and you will still find much evidence of their architecture and rule here today. The cricket pitch in Corfu town is just one of the many interesting and quirky features.
Corfu caters for everyone from golf, water sports, water parks, scuba diving, horse riding or simply for those who just want to relax on the beautiful and many beaches Corfu has to offer.
Corfu Town was built between two fortresses during the Venetian rule and is one of the most beautiful, most impressive and interesting cities in Greece. The population of Corfu Town is about 30,000, and is quite cosmopolitan compared to other islands in Greece. It is an amazing mixture of old tavernas, new cafes, bars and clubs plus the beautiful old city protected by the two fortresses.
The town's architecture offers elegant buildings, mansions, palaces and monuments in narrow paved streets with stone steps, French designed squares full of trees and flowers, impressive Venetian castles and even Byzantine churches. The narrow streets house small shops and boutiques of every kind. Among the bustle look out for those shops and stalls selling local items like wild honey, fig cakes and handmade lace. Be tempted by the Corfiot craftsman who excel at designing and making jewellery in gold and silver.
Corfu Town has a unique beauty, charm, character and atmosphere that will bring you back time and time again. A visit and a coffee in one of their beautifully situated coffee shops to watch the world go by is a must.
St George / Agios Georgios
Situated on the south west coast of the island, St George known as the 'sun set bay' is approximately 35kms from Corfu Town.
Accessible by only one road that winds through dense olive groves, St George was once just a tiny fishing community.
Today it still retains much of it's charm and also boasts three wonderful sandy beaches, St George beach, Issos beach and Halikouna beach. Halikouna, the longest of the three is pure sand stretching for over a mile and attracts tourists and locals from all over Corfu.
Stretching out a little further across the sand dunes and desert like features is Lake Korission, covering an expanse of 1500 acres. The lake or lagoon here is a nature reserve and home to many rare bird species - ideal for walking and being close to nature as well as being a turtle-nesting area. This is truly a magical spot where sea and sand harmonise.
As the day draws to a close and the beaches begin to empty, St George becomes a paradise for those who enjoy tranquillity and the chance to relax in peaceful surroundings. Join the locals in the tavernas, sample the local wine and delicious cuisine whilst watching the sunset on the horizon. Simply divine!
Locals and most maps of the Island will refer to the resort of St George as Agios Georgios which is the Greek translation. There is also a resort to the North of the Island called Agios Georgios so watch out when map reading or asking for directions and remember that you are staying in St George South.

"A beautiful villa for two"
Both myself and my partner wished we had booked for longer and did not want to leave. Corfu is so pretty and having the car enabled us to really find some great hidden treasures off of the beaten track.
The resort of St George was perfect for our much needed quiet break and the beach is so lovely and sandy although the water was a little cold so early in the season! some really lovely fish tavernas where the fish is caught only a few hours before its cooked!
Jasmine cottage was the highlight. When we arrived we couldn't believe our luck at how lovely it was. It's decorated perfectly for a beach villa and so comfy with everything you need and more! The garden seating was a twice daily ritual for coffee/wine time :)
Already booking dates for 2014 with Alex.

"Great Cottage, Great Location, Great Resort"
Jasmine Cottage would be perfect for a couple or a couple with a young child. It is very well equipped with everything from iPod dock, microwave, fridge and cooker (not that we used the cooker!). It is far enough from the main resort (4-5 minute walk at the most) to be nice a quiet, but close enough to not need a car if you don't want one.
Jasmine Cottage has a lovely garden area overlooking the natural fields. It is only a 2 minute walk to the pool which you can use for free - all they ask is that you buy your drinks from their bar. The beach is a short 10 minute walk, and you can find a quiet spot if you avoid the section used by the large all-inclusive resort.
St Georges South itself is very friendly and the we particularly liked that most of the restaurants sit on the beach front, meaning most days ended with a drink watching the sunset - lovely. Our advice would be to get talking to and get to know the restaurant and bar owners as they are full of good tips on what to do during your stay. A boat trip to Paxos and Antipaxos is also well worth the money.

I completely enjoyed my stay at Jasmine Cottage. It was very girly and I felt completely safe on my own. Angela and Peter who look after the cottage were lovely and very helpful. I was looking for a quiet holiday and they advised me where the quieter beaches were and such lovely restuarants. Stock Travel were very helpful to point me in the direction of scuba diving and how to get to the diving club. I had such a lovely holiday and I would recommend this cottage if you are looking for a quiet get away.

Jasmine Cottage was a real treat. The cottage is wonderfully fitted and equipped and well looked after. The terrace and garden offered us lovely quiet evenings with a glass of wine and lazy mornings with coffee and a book before taking the stroll to the gorgeous beaches on offer – and the beaches are beautiful.
The village/town of St. George has all you'd need for a quiet holiday and is laid-back and peaceful.
We didn't bother visiting any other part of the island which is a testament, I think, to the wonderful cottage that is Jasmine Cottage. Wonderful holiday and the cottage is highly recommended to those seeking an escape from the trappings of a 'normal' busy summer/beach holiday.

"Everything you would need"
Our experience at jasmine cottage was fantastic. There was three of us. My husband and I and our 4 year old daughter. Alex the owner thought of everything you could possibly need on your holiday right down to arranging you a taxi transfer if required. The cottage was spacious and exceptionally clean. Set in a peaceful location but not too far away from the village.
Plenty to keep you occupied in the cottage if you are unfortunate to have a bad day, DVDs radio, cards, jenga . Even dressing gowns to keep you warm.
There is a swimming pool close by and two little supermarkets that have just about everything you need.
There is an excellent bar just down the road called mad mikes. They do fantastic breakfast and are very welcoming. Good fun at night time too .
We will definitely be going back to jasmine cottage next year and highly recommend it.

On arrival at Jasmine Cottage me and my sister couldnt be more delighted, it is set in beautiful tranquil surroundings with a beautiful patio area overlooking a huge lemon tree and open fields. The inside of Jasmine cottage is just as impressive, clean, bright, modern and spacious with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday.....including washing machine, hairdryer, iron and info about the island. Overall we had a fantastic time and have already re-booked for next year. Highly recommended.

"Peaceful, rural location yet close to beach, shops & tavernas"
Jasmine Cottage is situated amongst Greek family homes, overlooking open meadowland and olive trees, and with easy access to the south of the island. There is a small supermarket within 2 mins walk which is ideal for those who self cater - as we did for some of the 11 days we were there. The small town of Agios Georgios South has plenty of tavernas catering to all tastes; we specifically enjoyed the fish tavernas and Makis taverna which were superb value for money, service excellent and the food was fresh. The cottage was light, fresh, well equipped and comfortable for 2 sharing; would have been ok for an additional child, but with only a curtain separating the kitchen/living area from the bedroom would not give privacy if the 3rd person was a friend (unless you know them intimately!). The terrace and garden was wonderful and we spent a couple of days just relaxing and unwinding, reading in the sun and shade. We watered the garden to save the couple who provide maintenance for the property coming out each day - and we enjoyed this home from home. The best beach for us was at the far south east end where there were rocks for snorkelling and where for the most part we had the beach to ourselves (no good for those who want umbrellas, beach chairs etc. but for isolation and peace - perfect). The lake and that end of the beach was great for walks and wildlife. The village of Agios Matthaios is worth a visit as it is a Corfiot working village - we had coffee in the main street on several occasions, meeting up with local people for a stilted conversation about politics, health, sport etc. and made friends with a retired man who we now keep in touch with on Facebook. Best thing: being with Greek people who live there permanently, cleanliness & contemporary interior of the cottage and proximity to beaches, supermarket, harbour and working Corfiot villages. Worst thing: sadness at the political state of Greece and how it is affecting local businesses; difficulty sleeping if you have very noisy neighbours who play loud music (we only had this one night, and to be fair, we like to retire earlyish 10.30pm and get up early, so are not typical holidaymakers). We would love to return to this cottage and area in future and would recommend it - you need a car, and need to get out and experience the mountains, local villages, beaches etc, and visit Corfu town. We have been going to Greece (islands and mainland) for 35 yrs and love being with the local people - this cottage met all our requirements.
