About this location
The Rethymnon Prefecture region
Crete is the home of the Minoan civilization (3500 bc) and there are many historical sites to visit. The south coast, around Ag Galini boasts 340 days a year of sunshine and this makes Villa Eleni an all year round destination!
Crete is 220 miles long and about 30 miles N-S. The west is very mountainous and the Samaria Gorge is worth visiting.
There is much to do on Crete and a single visit will not be enough to see all the island!
Agia Galini is a very attractive small harbour village with some nice beaches, nice shops, two pharmacies and a doctor! there are many nice bars and restaurants in the town, particularly on the harbour. From 2013 there is also a newly constructed 'ancient' Greek theater and cultural centre on the hill overlooking the harbour.
Close to the historical sites of Faestos, Triada, Gortys and Spili, it makes a good setting for the romantic, historian, exercise fanatic, and sailor! There is a sailing school run by an English couple, and soon there will be a scuba diving centre. There are classes for art and handicraft, as well as birdwatching.
The town has car hire, bike hire and tourist facilities, including coach trips to other sites on the island. There are also boat trips to other nearby beaches, islands and also o see the dolphins in the bay.
In all, Ag Galini is an excellent all round location!

"Peace and quiet."
This property is situated at the lower end of a hillside with both excellent views as well as lots of privacy. The house offers sufficient space and comfort, The kitchen is well equipped and the open plan living room features a balcony for having breakfast and late afternoon drinks. That is as long as the wind does not blow. In he latter case the poolside terrace is a better choice. The village of Agia Galini is close and offers sufficient choice of restaurants and shops. We did quite a lot of walking, but needed to create our own walks using Google Earth to find the back-roads and paths. One nice walk goes from Agia Galini to the west along the top of the cliffs overlooking he sea. You have to find it by yourselves though, since it is not indicated. To the west here are also lots of remote beaches, which in October you will have to share with almost nobody. In short: a good place for dolce far niente interspersed with bouts of activity, be it walking swimming or snorkeling.

"Great Place to stay"
The Villa is great and quiet and very restful. You can sit and look out over bay all times of day knowing you are close enough to everything but on your own to enjoy the peace and relaxation of a holiday. We enjoyed so much are going back again this year.
