The County Fermanagh region

The County Fermanagh region

County Fermanagh is known as the Irish lake district, and with over one tenth of the county covered by water it is easy to see why. Tranquil, glassy and utterly beautiful, Lough Erne and the surrounding lakes are Fermanagh's star attraction. The lake presents a host of things to do including fishing, kayaking and a range of other water sports.

The rolling green hills make up much of the county's countryside deserves equal attention. As do the historical landmarks, walking trails, activity centres, pubs and restaurants.

With forests, beautiful vistas, old country houses, excellent restaurants, intriguing caves, castles and canoeing, Fermanagh is one of Ireland's best-kept secrets.

Walking and sightseeing are a must, and there are many places to visit in the area, for example Castle Coole, a magnificent neoclassical house with fine interiors and furnishings from before 1830. Just 5 miles from our site lies the Janos stone which is regarded as one of the most enigmatic and remarkable stone figures in Ireland.

There are also the Marble Arch Caves – these Mesozoic limestone caves have an extensive network of caverns that can be viewed by boat and on foot.

On top of all this is the excellent shopping in Enniskillen town, and the many friendly and high quality pubs and restaurants are sure to keep you entertained for however long you choose to stay.

"Great family holiday"

We stayed recently in one of the waterside cottages with my wife and 3 children aged 7 to 14. There were plenty of activites on offer and the staff were very informative and helpful. My son particularly enjoyed kayaking and fishing. The girls enjoyed the cycling and walks around the trails. The house was very clean and big! We will definitely be back!
