The Crete region

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, situated in the south of the Mediterranean Sea, enjoying a wonderful climate. it is still considered to be very traditional in its ways and has its own style of music, dance and also a different dialect from the rest of Greece. The coastline offers many beaches, breathtaking views, wonderful flowers and plants and stunning mountain sides. Quaint, pretty traditional villages to visit and also archaeological sites dating back to the Minoan period. Many selected walks to try and also hiking and rock climbing all over the island. Wherever you go on this beautiful island you will find traditional taverna's offering Cretan specialties all made with local meat, vegetables and herbs of the island. Enjoy your meals with Cretan wines, brandy and of course Raki all produced locally.tt

Aghios Nikolaos

We are situated in Istron which boasts three bays, the beaches there vary from stony to golden sand. The old villages of Pirgos and Kalo Chorio are within a pleasant walk letting you have an insight into an unspoiled way of life. On the way to the beach you will see fig, pomegranate, lemon and orange trees and of course olive trees everywhere! Just a few minutes from the apartments you will find the local bakery, supermarkets, pharmacy, bars and tavernas.

There is a regular bus service from the Istron that takes you to Aghios Nikolaos or Ierapetra, taxis are available.

Aghios Nikolaos is a 15 minute journey and offers everything from traditional to modern and still retaining its character which has made it so popular for many years. A market is held here on Wednesdays.

Elounda with its luxury hotels and villas is worth a visit if only for the views along the coastline as you make your way to Plaka, from there you can take a 10 minute boat ride over to the island of Spinalonga, or if you prefer a longer boat trip catch the boat from Aghios Nikolaos.

Ierapetra is on the west coast, a 20 minute drive from Istron, here you have the Libyan sea and black sandy beaches. Market day here is held on Saturdays.

A visit to Lassithi plateau is a must and worth hiring a car to see the spectacular scenery and delightful Cretan villages.
