The Crete region
Crete, not only in Greece but worldwide known as one of the most popular place for Greece holidays and living. People who come to Greece for holidays can enjoy the best holiday infrastructure which is suitable to tourists of all kind. One can find a very wide range of accommodation facilities while enjoying their Greece luxury holidays. Visitors coming to Crete for their Greece holiday have the two international airports in Heraklion and Chania, or the boat to the main ports of Heraklion, and Rethymnon to reach their destinations.
Elounda one of the worlds most renowned holiday destinations, has one of the most stunning aspects in the Mediterranean. It is situated within Mirabello Bay on the northeast coast of the island of Crete, just 10 km from Aghios Nikolaos and only 65 km from Heraklion International Airport. Whilst having amazing beaches and a peace and tranquility of its own, all of the amenities for a successful holiday, such as water sports and excursions to the famous island of Spinalonga are available within easy walking distance of the centre. The huge range of accommodation in Elounda, from some of the most famous, highly rated and luxurious hotels in the world, to simple self-catering apartments, means that this truly cosmopolitan resort maintains it’s luxurious and relaxed picture.
The area that is known as Elounda is actually made up of four villages, Pano and Kato Elounda, Mavrikiano and the new settlement of Skisma (known as Elounda) where the harbour is.
Aghios Nikolaos, a small town with a big heart, is situated on the North East coast of Crete, 65km from the capitol Iraklion, and its major international airport. The more you visit the area the more you appreciate its diversity. It is the commercial and cultural centre of Lassithi Prefecture with town and prefecture administration and a major hospital. It has been a major tourist destination for over 40 years, with accommodation ranging from some of the best hotels in the world to simple self catering apartments and the beaches are Blue Flag accredited. It is a large port, with a regular ferry service and much visited by Cruise ships. It has a large modern Marina capable of accommodating many boats of all sizes. It is one of the most picturesque towns imaginable, with an indented coastline and probably the most photographed bridge in the world joining the “Bottomless Lake” (it is actually 64m deep) to the sea. During the summer the harbour is a hive of activity, with boats leaving virtually by the minute on excursions of all types, fishing, visits to Elounda and the island of Spinalonga.. The town is, of course, a major shopping centre, where you can buy almost anything, there are good sports facilities of all types both aquatic and land based, regular cultural events are held both winter and summer in various venues and there are two cinemas. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars catering for a wide range of tastes and even in the winter the narrow streets are busy with shoppers and diners. Most importantly however, the town and the surrounding area is home to the most charming, hospitable and courteous people you could ever wish to meet.
