Home description
This lovely old house is renovated to a high standard rarely found even in modern Greek self-catered properties. Handmade terracotta or marble floors inside and hammered marble underfoot outside. This place is perfect for a couple who enjoy having a good amount of space in their accommodation. The master Bedroom is huge and covers almost the whole of the first floor area; it faces east towards the mountains. The small garden is accessed directly from the Kitchen/Dining Room and faces west. A large sun umbrella shades the outside table and there are both sunny and shady spots in the garden for lazy afternoons. There is an open fireplace in both the Bedroom and the dining area and central heating for the winter months. The winter Living Room can be used as a twin-bedded room and closed off to the rest of the house if required without compromising the accommodation. Steps both from the street and at the rear of the property may make it unsuitable for the infirm or elderly.
This area is not for those looking for nightlife. Walking, Reading, Swimming, Painting and Eating are the main activities for you here. There are several Restaurants, coffee houses and a few shops. You do not need to cook at all from Breakfast to Dinner - it is all here. The main Medical Centre for the area is also on the outskirts of the village.

The Peloponnese region
This is a wonderful place for relaxing, painting, reading, walking, on waymarked paths alone or with a leader, and bird watching. Winters are mild with plenty of bright sunny days but chilly nights. Summer is much longer than the tourist companies would suggest with beautiful, clear days right through December and January. Wild flowers cover the landscape from late September onwards and right through until mid-May. The sea is extremely clean and clear. Snorkelling is worthwhile. Swimming is safe in the village it is via a ladder into deep water at the old harbour and from the rocks. Pantazi Beach is a 10 minute walk away and there is a local bus circulating all day to other beaches and seaside villages. Pantazi is shaded by Tamarisk trees and in summer offers sun loungers/umbrellas/changing facilities/taverna/beach bar/WC. In nearby Stoupa you may hire a boat.
Aghios Nicolaos area
Day trips can easily be arranged to many historical sites - Olympia, Messini, Mystras & Monemvasia to name but three. . In Kardamili (mentioned in Homer's The Iliad) there are numerous tavernas and good tourist shops as well as the site of Ancient Kardimili with a fascinating little museum. This a very popular area for walking. There are good waymarked paths all over the Taigetos mountains if you are confident to walk without a guide. There is also a small company in nearby Kardamili who can arrange walks, or trips to many the ancient sites in the area. There is bicycle hire in Aghios and the immediate area is flat and safe. They organise a daylong picnic cycle ride during the main season. A newly-opened Yoga centre just a few miles away in the hills runs open sessions twice a week. If you need to keep in touch there is an Internet cafe and a nearby coffee house with free internet access, if you have your laptop.
How to get there
Direct flights to Kalamata (KLX) flights run from May through October from Gatwick and Manchester. Flight days are Sunday and Thursday. The Taxi charge from Kalamata to the house is 35 Euros. If you want to take time off in Athens, it can be cheaper to take a flight into Athens and either hire a car or we can contact a good and reliable taxi driver who will take you to the door. The beautiful drive from Athens to Aghios Nikolaos takes approximately 4 hours. We would recommend that you do spend a night (at least) in Athens to see the sights, at one end of your break. We can suggest good, reasonably priced, central but quiet hotels that where they can also help you to arrange trips. Car hire companies will deliver/collect from any Athens hotel. Hertz, Avis and Europcar are all there. On a general map you may find Aghios Nicolaos, which is 7km south of Kardamili.

Further details
On the ground floor the house has a sitting room, shower room with WC and a large kitchen dining room leading into the private garden. The Bedroom takes up almost the whole of the first floor. The queen-sized double bed has 100% cotton bedlinen and with a quilted cotton bed cover and duvet for cooler nights. The huge overhead fan will keep you cool should you experience a heatwave during your stay. Both the en suite Bathroom and Shower room are fully fitted with beautiful marble walls and floors. Upstairs the en suite provides a luxury that few Greek hotels can boast with a separate double-size shower, bath and two wash hand basins whilst the shower room downstairs has a separate WC room.
A sound system for both CD's and MP3s will allow you to drift off to your favourite music or listen whilst sipping your gin & tonic on the private terrace. Double doors lead directly to this terrace with both open and shady areas for relaxing or, maybe, taking your breakfast. In the winter the open fire in the bedroom provides 'food for the soul' and extra heat (although there is, of course, full oil-fired central heating). The sitting room has two comfortable divans with Greek cotton-filled mattresses. This room can be closed off from the rest of the accommodation, making it completely private.

Guestbook
THE bedroom takes up virtually the whole of the first floor - quite impressive. WE loved being in the centre of the village and walking distance to everything. IT really felt like being in someone's home - thank you. BEAUTIFUL home - we loved waking up to the heavenly scent of jasmine. REALLY enjoyed our break in Spitaki - thank you.
