The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Languedoc is a major touristic area for French people and foreigners. Domaine de Beaumont is well located if you want to explore this fascinating region. Agde, with its bustling old streets and an imposing 12th century cathedral, is only 3 kms. Nearby Marseillan was originally settled by the Phoenicians around 535BC and is the home of the vermouth Noilly Prat.

At Marseillan Plage there is a wonderful sandy beach. The modern resort of Cap D’Agde offers a wide range of leisure activities and a 14 km stretch of beach. Nearby Pezenas is a beautiful medieval market town with some wonderful 16th and 17th century buildings and was also the home for a period of the playwright Moliere. Beziers is well worth a visit and has some excellent restaurants and cafes. Slightly further away are the dynamic cities of Montpellier with an interesting mix of old and 21st century architectural styles and the historic cite of Carcassonne with its magnificent walled city.

The nearest airports are Béziers 20kms, Montpellier 55 kms, Nimes 105 kms, Perpignan 120kms, and Carcassonne 115 kms.

Here is a short summary of the regions history that should help us understand its origins...:

The Greeks, Phoenicians and then settled first in Languedoc. The region was later invaded by the Alamanni, Vandals, Visigoths and Saracens.

During the Middle Ages, Languedoc was known as the "county of Toulouse". It was indeed an independent county which was supposed to be part of the kingdom of France.

In the 12th century, the Cathar religious movement came from Languedoc. The Albigensian Crusade wiped them out since it had been declared heretics by the Church. That is why the county of Toulouse was taken by the crown of France in 1271. It has been part of France ever since.

The name given later to the area was Languedoc, meaning "language of oc" in the local Occitan language. The kings of France made Languedoc one of the provinces of the kingdom.

Later the parliament of Languedoc was established in Toulouse. The French Revolution abolished the parliament and the province.

Agde

Domaine de Beaumont is ideally situated for visitors looking for a sunny holiday in the south of France. Just a few kilometres from ancient Greek town of Agde and the famous beaches of the Mediterranean.

Agde - built on the lava flow and rocks of an ancient volcano, “le mount Saint-Loup”, the town of Agde offers panoramic views of the L’ Hérault estuary.

It has an imposing cathedral dating from the 12thC, plus, the remains of the city walls originally built by the Greeks.

There is plenty for visitors to see and do, with bustling streets and many boutiques, to sampling the food served at the many fish restaurants along the quayside.

Cap d’Agde- originally Phoenician, and then an important Greek port, Cap d'Agde offers a variety of leisure activities. The Office de Tourisme talk of the 14 km of golden sandy beaches, each offering something different. Windsurfing, banana boat rides, pedalos, paragliding and all the normal seaside activities are available. The marina, with its large bars and restaurants is popular all year around.

"Rustic French Accommodation - Fantastic Hosts, Vineyard & Restaurant!"

Had a great 5 day stay. The hosts were exceptionally friendly and the restaurant in particular was superb. We enjoyed the use of the tennis court and the outdoor pool (although the weather was unseasonally cold in June 2011 when we were there). The accommodation was as you would expect of a rustic french vineyard, a more modern kitchen would have been nice but then we probably wouldn't have eaten in the restaurant as much (which would have been a shame). We were very appreciative of the daily bread & croissant deliveries. We would definitely return.

"A place to Chill out and Relax"

We have been to the domaine twice and both times we loved it. We enjoyed it so much we wanted to keep it quiet. We stayed with a teenager and young children and four adults. There was something to suit all. The domaine is close to many scenic towns and villages so we made plenty of short trips to sightsee. The villas are very spacious and well equipped and well laid out. The pools were ideal for our needs with plenty of sun umbrellas and seats. We also enjoyed our meals at the Restaurant and of course the wine was excellent and we tried all varities but loved the Reserva. We also prepared many meals at the villa and enjoyed eating out on the patio.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay and thought the second visit wouldnt live up to the first but we enjoyed it just as much. I would highly recommend the Domaine.

"Domaine De Beaumont-Very Disappointing"

We split our holiday this year between two locations and Domaine De Beaumont was the second location. Attractively located between Agde and Marseillan, the Domaine looks very attractive upon arrival… More

Dear Guest, first of all I am really sorry that you are that much dissappointed with our service. I can understand you can find some of the things (towels? kitchen equipments?) not for you because of your life standarts may be very high and you don't find our standarts good enough for you but I cannot help thinking this is a very unfair review with most of the points!
In anyway I am sorry for letting you going back home that dissapointed. In the same time I am glad to hear that your 2 boys made friends and enjoyed their time in Beaumont. Actually our main aim is to make the parents & also the children happy and offer the adults privacy and make them piece in mind while the kids have super fun in safe. I am happy to hear that at least this part of your expactation (which is the most valuable part for us) was satisfied.
Now I would like to answer your comments point by point :
First of all, regarding the kitchen equipment; all the villa kitchens are well-equipped with many details; from the smallest tool up to the bigest ones: from the coffe/ tea makers, tost makers, microvawe, to dish washers, hobs, oven, fridge, to glasses & plates and even up to patatoes masher.. Actually we take into account all the comments of the guests and add all the little pices and bits in the kitchen equippments..so please let us know in what domaine the kitchen equipment was inadequate ??
Concerning the patio area, lets make it clear: the villa part & the restorant (basically the living parts) are very well lightened parts of the domaine. Actually all guests usually aggree that Beaumont is a very lightened property all in all ! Although we will check this subject with other guests again and see how we could improve this if there is a need for most of the people, unfortunately we cannot lighten all because Beaumont is a 55hectar property and it is impossible to lighten all really.
Thirdly and most importantly please note that after having collected the reviews we have listened to our guests and all the villas are renewed & nicely redecorated in 2008!! Of course we can always continue doing investment and updating the standarts. And that's sure we will continue doing it. but I find giving example of the past negative reviews is not propriate as we have done the necessary updates just following the season of 2007.
Considering the bed linens & towels quality & final cleanning fees. I aggree with the quality of the towels; they need to be improved and in 2012 they will be the new ones (each 2 years we change them). However normally there is no extra final cleanning fee to be paid(it was included in the price).
Lastly and once again we are sorry for the other negative points you have experienced. I guess you were dissapointed because you couldn't make your voice heard by the right person in the domaine. Otherwise I am sure we could have sorted out most your problems like changing the toillette brush (surely the cleaners forgot and we missed seeing it but honestly this doesn't happen even rarely !) additional kitchen equipments or other little staff… So once again sorry to have you gone home that dissappointed and please know that all your comments are carefully listened and will be taken into consideration for the updates…
