The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The town of Agde is a town rich with history where 3 waters meet; the River Herault, the Canal du Midi and the Mediterranean Sea. Around 2500 years old, the 2nd oldest town in France was a Greek maritime settlement. Also known as The Black Pearl due to the volcanic explosions around 750,000 years ago which have leant the town the abundant buildings in basalt.

Today it is a busy town with a main promenade, quaint winding streets, attractive shops, terraced cafes, waterside restaurants, local museums, weekly flea, flower, food and general markets; not to be missed!

Only 5km from the lively seaside resort of Cap D'Agde and its 14km of sandy safe beaches.

Only 2.5km from the charming fishing village of Grau D'Agde, where the river meets the sea.

In Agde there is an SNCF train station to enable easy travel to great nearby cosmopolitan cities of Montpellier, Beziers, Nimes, Narbonne, Carcassone and Perpignan and further afield.

Agde

The area offers something for everyone.

For the sports enthusist there are every type watersports available from windsurfing, jet-skiing ,sailing, kite surfing and scuba diving.

On dry land the many kilometres of cycle and walking tracks give the visitor a chance to explore the area whether it be along the sea shore, the Canal du Midi, the many interesting villages or around the various Wetlands.

Children are well provided for with several activity parks in Cap d'Agde, horseriding centres and a swimming pool complex in Rochelonge. Further afield there is Sigean wildlife park; the Caves at Demoiselles, Millau bridge, Carcassonne Medieval city.
