Apartment | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 8
We have a spacious 3 bedroom, loft style apartment for rent in historic Agde on the banks of the River Herault, only 5 minutes drive from the stunning beaches of the mediterranean. The characterful building dates back to 1679 and is constructed from Volcanic rock from nearby Mont St Loup. It has 3 large bedrooms, a massive open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen and will comfortably sleep 8 people.
The typically Mediterranean climate of the region, with hot Summers and over 300 days of sunshine a year, makes exploring the area a pleasure. By boat along the river, out into the sea or along the famous Canal du Midi. You can cycle or walk to the beach along dedicated cycle paths or explore further afield along sleepy Country lanes.
The apartment is ideally situated and is a great base for a holiday in the South of France. The options are limitless - from a family beach holiday to a cultural sightseeing tour of Southern France and Northern Spain. It is at the hub of everything that is happening in Agde with fantastic transport links to places near and far.
Our apartment is on the top floor of the terracota coloured building shown in the main picture of this listing. The dining area, living room and master bedroom windows look out onto the river and the floating restaurants on the quayside and have fantastic views of the surronding countryside. The second and third bedrooms have views of the stone staircase and courtyard, reminiscent of a scene from Harry Potter.
The apartment was fully refurbished for the Summer 2011 season. It has a new open plan kitchen in the living / dining room, a separate bathroom, separate wc and an en-suite walk in shower in the master bedroom. It is fully equipped to comfortably sleep 8 people. The entrance to the apartment is at the rear of the building, next to the colourful square and close to the tourist office and impressive Cathedral of Agde.

About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Agde - 'Black Pearl of the Mediterranean' lies on the Cote d'or at the junction of the Canal du Midi with the sea. There are miles of sandy beaches, limitless sunshine and fishing boats still moor at the quays of this cheerful and colourful port, the second oldest town of France. A maze of picturesque streets full of shops, restaurants and cafe bars yet we are only 5 mins from the vibrant resort town of Cap d'Agde which offers the usual pleasures of the Med - nightclubs, casino, cinemas, Aqualand - the popular water theme park, luna park - a large fairground and the private naturist quarter. Agde is close to some stunning, clean and relatively quiet beaches, it flies two EU blue flags for the quality of its beaches and environment.
Nearby Carcassonne and the castles of the Cathars are an easy drive away to the west. The dramatic gorges and caves of the stunning Haut-Languedoc national park are close inland. To the east the Camargue, the great nature reserve that's the home of white horses and black bulls. Nearby is the nature reserve of Bagnas and the beautiful lake 'Etang de Thau' with its oysters and mussels beds and rose-pink flamingos, also a wonderful place for boating and kite/wind-surfing. You also have great road and rail links to wonderful old French towns such as Beziers, Narbonne, Montpellier, Nimes, even Avignon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille, Barcelona, Figueras and Andorra are possible as day trips.
Activities in the local area are numerous and will keep even the most active family occupied throughout the holiday. You can canoe, white water raft, cruise the canal, sail on the river, hit the med on a jet-ski, go on a deep sea fishing trip. For those who like their water sports a little less active you can take a boat trip along the river and then round the med to Cap D'Agde, fisherman will be in their element as the river is teeming with fish. For the land lubbers you can choose from horse riding, pony trekking, quad biking, go karting, cycling, mountain biking, adventure trails or the more regular sports of football, basketball, tennis, golf, boules, beach volleyball etc.
For those after a more relaxing holiday you can enjoy the climate in the local parks or beaches, view some of the local cinemas, events and festivals or even visit one of the nearby vineyards.
