In Aeolian Lipari or Eolie islands, we describe Monterosa as an "atoll within the mediterranean", and rightly so because the house is completely isolated on a hill amid fields and can only be accessed by walking 650 meters up a track. Spectacular views across Lipari Eolie and towards Stromboli, Panarea, Vulcano and Sicily.

Ideal for meditation, the house comprises a large room with double bed, bathroom with shower with access to a large covered terrace furnished with a stone cooking corner. Included is a safe, coffee maker ( amerikan coffee),kettle, microwave, toaster satellite TV, DVD, ceiling fan, stereo set, hairdryer and garden furniture and a spotting scope.

The Sicily region

The Aeolian Islands or Lipari Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. The locals residing on the islands are known as Eolians. The Aeolian Islands are a popular tourist destination in the summer, and attract up to 200,000 visitors annually.

The largest island is Lipari. The other islands include Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea.

Aeolian Islands

The present shape of the Aeolian Islands is the result of volcanic activity over a period of 260,000 years. There are two active volcanoes - Stromboli and Vulcano. The volcanic activity of steaming fumaroles and thermal waters are on most of the islands. Only the one on Stromboli, the northernmost island, is still active.

curbing urban development has been a key to preserving the Aeolian islands in a natural state. New buildings are severely restricted. Existing residences can be bought and restored but must be constructed to resemble its whitewashed houses. Traditional houses consist of modular cubes constructed from indigenous building materials — stone, lava, pumice and tufo. Almost all houses have a large outdoor terrace, usually shaded by grape-vines and flowering vines. The houses, balconies and terraces are mostly decorated with brightly patterned terra-cotta tiles, a throwback to long-ago Spanish conquerors.

"Getting away from it all in Lipari !"

Alfredo was a great host, very helpful from our first communication, once we arrived in Lipari Al met us and we transferred to the lovely cottage, our bags went on the quad bike, we walked the last part, its definitely a decent hike so you need to be pretty fit. What you see in the photos is exactly it, but the views are much better in real life, stunning. Its a place to enjoy peace & quiet, & getting away from it all, with everything you need. Its a 10 minute walk down a dirt track, then down a steep concrete road for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes into Lipari town all up 30 minutes, going back up is good for your cardio vascular !! It was wonderful experience, we highly recommend, Lipari is a lovely place.

"A beautiful house in a beautiful location!"

We had a Great stay in sicily, greatly thanks to the beautiful secluded house that we very luckily found! the house is on a secluded hill with no neihbours and very few people passing by. the access is by foot or quad bike only and its a 7-10 min walk from the end of the road to the house. we really loved it and highly reccommend it to people who want to have a quiet intimate time.
